I ordered Speakeasy's 384/128 ADSL Line for 59.99 a month. I ordered the
line on 12/8/99. Once i placed my order they immediately gave me a FREE
Dial-Up account. Then second later i recieved an e-mail from both Speakeasy
& Covad reguarding my Order. From the day that i order it till the day the
line was installed they sent me frequent e-mail keeping me up to date on
what was going on with the order. Finally on 12/28 Bell Atlantic installed
the loop, and can't you believe they can within the first hour of their
appointment window. The BA guy rang my door bell and told me he would be on
the side of my house working on my loop. I said GREAT. I didn't even have to
be home. Then on 12/31 Covad was scheduled to come and install my Bridge.
They came toward the end of the appointment window, but alest they came. I
did all of the inside wireing so all the Covad guy had to do was to plug in
the Bridge, and configure my TCP/IP configurations and i was up and running.

Naturally I immediatly stated to download stuff, but when i would download
stuff my service would go out. So i called Speakeasy and i got throught in 5
minutes to tech support. They remotely tested my line an said that i was to
far, and that i would have to upgrade to SDSL service. So I told them that i
would get back to them, because the price range was way out of my budget. I
was using to bad service for about a week when on night AJ from Speakeasy
called me and told me that some day this week a Covad Tech will come to my
house to change my bridge. So i asked why. (because they had told me that i
was to far from to CO for ADSL). He told me that some people were haveing
the same problem that i was having and they found that i was the Bridge(
Speadstream 5250). Sure enought the very next day a Covad Tech wad at my
door with a replacement bridge. He pluged it in and i tried to download
Linux, and i worked great. Now i get full service with out any interuptions.
Speakeasy was AWESOME. GREAT Tech Support.

Just wanted to share my experience with Speakeasy.org. I have had the
service installed for less than 24 hours now and I can attest that the
experience as a whole has been A+. Especially when you consider that
this service is replacing a currently installed offering from Ameritech
Speedpath ADSL.

Speakeasy has an excellent installation feedback mechanism, provides
dial-up until your ADSL service is installed, first month free,
installation free, $150 rebate from the HW manufacturer = free
equipment, truly first class service, and up to four static IP addresses
free! For the price of $59/month though I would have liked to see 4
email boxes instead of two they provide.

The only blemish that I had encountered was during the installation. The
Covad installer was scheduled for an 8 am to 12 pm install. He did not
show up during that time frame. I ended-up calling both Speakeasy and
Covad. Spent over 1/2 on hold with Speakeasy support before finally
giving up and leaving a message. Then I left for work. Covad sent me directly to voice mail.
The Covad tech ended-up stopping by some 2 hours later. Thank God the
wife was home as backup, otherwise I would still be waiting for an
install! The sad part is having been put on hold for 1/2 hour and I have
yet to hear back from Speakeasy support!

Regardless, I am installed and can connect trouble free at. Thank God
for all the Speakeasys out there. As for Ameriwreck, "See ya!"

Well, I haven't got the DSL in yet, but I can say that both Covad and Speakeasy are awesome. I called Speakeasy at about midnight (from work), and was surprised that they were actually taking orders still. I put in an order for my DSL, USWest (oh dear god no!!!) actually fulfilled their deadline and installed the loop. Covad is coming on the 11th, 2 days from now, and they were really good about rescheduling (originally was for the 12th) becuz I have to work that day. The rep I've been talkin to from Speakeasy was really cool, gave me all the info I wanted and/or needed, and assured me that I was gonna get what I paid for. And how the hell can you beat free setup, free hardware, and free first month?!? Free sexual favors? Doubtful...DSL is better than sex man!! I'll add to this after i see if Covad does its job and I get my 40-50 ping on the speakeasy CS servers...

Ok, well the COVAD guy was scheduled to be here between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon today, Saturday. He *finally* got here 2 1/2 hours late, but I had to break down the Christmas tree this morning anyway, so I had time to kill

Yadda yadda, he ran the wire from the NID outside to the inside splitter, made come connections on my existing phone jack in the computer room, and after a few long minutes, the 5250 finally synched up. We go on to the net and speeds were pretty impressive!!

I am looking forward to a long relationship with Speakeasy, and would HIGHLY recommend them and their EXCELLENT service. Forget about BA InslowSpeed and F***Comm, Speakeasy is the hands down winner. I feel I made the right choice!

Dec 11 - Ordered DSL 384k/128k via there online form. I was called back in less than 5 minutes! (I am not kidding). I gave all the info required and the rep did a good job explaining what the service included, etc.

I immediately started using the free dialup account while waiting for the DSL connection. No problems encountered with their dialup service.

Dec 14 - Was notified by email that Bell Atlantic would be installing the line on Dec 22.

Dec 22 - Bell Atlantic came and did their thing. No problems.

Dec 27 - Covad tech came, ran line from box to bridge, then my hub. Waited for the the LED's to all go green on the modem/bridge, tested functionality at my computer... all worked fine. He was here a total of 30 minutes.

I am very pleased with the way the installation went, and have recommended Speakeasy/Covad to others who have since signed up.

Note: The TAC "Total Account Control" web page they give you access to after creating your account is great. You can check current status of your DSL order without calling on the phone.

I want to start out by saying Speakeasy's customer support has been
great. From day one when I called to get information about pricing,
hardware information, etc. I was pleased with the level of competency
and customer care. Now with my order in the works (I placed the order
on December 21st), 98% of the time when I call with questions I am
able to speak with someone within a couple of minutes. The agents are
knowledgeable, polite and willing to ask someone else if they don't
have an answer or aren't sure about an issue (unlike some other ISP's
who Bull#$!@ you to death). They are also up front in letting me know
I should call with any questions big or small. They seem to know that
customer service is about the customer.

Okay, here's the bad news. It's now January 6th and I still don't
have any dates for BA or Covad. It turns out that BA has been holding
it up because they need more information (they did this twice). They
have my correct address, phone, etc. What's the problem? The Telco's
are very frustrating. In general I feel they don't know that customer
service is about the customer. The upside is that I called Speakeasy
to find out what is going on and I couldn't get anyone on the phone.
While being transferred to provisioning I was sent to an agents
voicemail. A little skeptical I hung up and called back and explained
I was sent into voicemail. The agent explained they are very busy and
that they check their voicemail as fast as humanly possible. I was
again transferred to voicemail and I left a message. I truly didn't
think I would get a response the same evening but 10 minutes later as
I was leaving work I received a call from one of the provisioning
agents explaining the situation. To tell you the truth I didn't learn
anything new about the situation but I felt much better that I was
getting a speedy response. He also left me a message at my home. At
least to me it seemed, again, that they know customer service is about
the customer.

As more happens I will add to my review.

Well, here is an ex-Flashfucks customer praising God ( and I am atheist ) that there is a company like Speakeasy out there. Everyone I have spoken with has been incredibly nice and I wasn't dicked around for 2 months like I was by the crackheads of DSL providers! This review may be slighty higher than it should be, but hey, they actually had a connection to the CO in my area and didn't just lie about having one for a FULL week AFTER install! All I have left to say is:

Thank You!
Thank You!
Thank You!

I signed up for SpeakEasy DSL in early December 1999, because of the
rave reviews found here on DSLReports.com. While I waited to recieve my
notice of installation, I pondered their web hosting package. For
$14.95, they would provide typical services and multiple e-mail
accounts. Covad notified that they will process my order. Long story
short, there seems to be no copper in the telco CO, not their fault. I
decided to pursue DSL somewhere else, since SpeakEasy could not tell me
how I can go about having my line changed to copper.

Here is the trouble. After moving my domain account to them, on
Dec.24th, xmas eve, I recieved an e-mail indicating my $14.95 was due.
So on Dec. 29th I sent them two checks to cover payment for the next
two months. On Dec. 31st, they cancelled my shell account. I e-mail them
and was told to contact billing?..on a holiday week?. I waited to see if
they would post payment, here it is Jan. 4th, no payment has posted and
I called only to be kept on hold.

I decided that I will move my domain account from Speakeasy. They are
not as great as they seem. How can you send an invoice and demand
payment in 5 days and with no warning terminate the shell account.

Never trust the hype over SpeakEasy.

I just had my DSL install finished on 12/31, about 30 days from date
of order. Ordered 384/128 ADSL in Brooklyn, NY. My experience with
Speakeasy was excellent. Tech support staff was wonderful, especially
the DSL provisioners Ashley and Jessica. Responses were prompt and
courteous. The support staff isn't afraid to admit when they are
unsure of something and kick it up to a higher level. Overall, very
satisfied with Speakeasy, and will definately spread the word to my
friends and associates. Covad was also pleasant to deal with, being
punctual when it came to appointments, techs who were knowledgeable
and friendly. The TAC page is a great thing. It keeps the customer in
the loop and informed about whats going on with their order.
Now on to the bad part of the order. Bell Atlantic is
possibly one of the worst companies to deal with. According to the
DSL worklog, Bell Atlantic showed up two days before their scheduled
date to install the loop. no one was home, so they left. had to
reschedule the loop install date for a week later for various
reasons. Covad scheduled their install and the loop install for the
same day, saying they had asked BA to try and finish the loop install
early in the day so it would be ready for them. The Bell Atlantic
tech showed up fairly late in the day, only an hour or so before
Covad showed up. When I mentioned I had expected her sooner, she
commented that since the box she had to cut the wires down in (not
really sure what she was saying or talking about) was in a nearby
building instead of on a pole, it would be and easy job, and that she
had stopped home to take a shower because she had a dinner party that
night. Well, the box she needed was on a pole, and to add insult to
injury, the line that was supposed to be for DSL was a regular
voiceline with dial tone. The party going BA tech gave up at about
3:45, saying that the people at the CO who would fix this problem
went home for the day. While i was being impressed by the
incompetence of BA, the Covad installers showed up. Instead of just
calling it a day when the loop could not be delivered, they punched
down the DSL jack, hooked up the bridge, and set up the wiring by the
NID. BA rescheduled the loop install.... and never showed up. all
they did was switch the line over to the DSLAM. they never came back
to install the network interface jack or connect the loop in the box
on the back of the house. So another day wasted. Frustrated, out of
days i could take off work, and after watching BA techs install
voice lines in my house for my various tenants over the years, I
connected the external loop to a free pair running into the house.
Covad came by, connected the DSL bridge to the loop, and in five
minutes, was up and running.
To rate each individual component of the install, Covad and Speakeasy
get A's, Bell Atlantic gets an F

Ordered 384/128 service in early December. Yadda yadda, I got emails from COVAD and SpeakEasy about the confirmed Bell Atlantic Loop date install for 12/28, and COVAD install on 12/30. I rescheduled the COVAD for a Saturday, 1/8/2000, but kept the Bell Atlantic date because I knew that I didn't need to be home for them anyway, since all the work could be done from outside. Being skeptical and cautious, I left a handwritten note to the Bell Atlantic tech tied to my phone line outside saying if there was any problem, please call me on my cell phone number which I left. I was very surprised when my cell phone rang later that day, and was informed by the Bell Atlantic tech that the install was complete and the line was tested successfully ! They also installed a new NID outside my house just for this line. I was very pleased, especially after all the Bell Atlantic bashing that's been going on. I consider myself lucky, since I really doubted this would be done correctly the first time.

I am now awaiting COVAD on the 8th to complete the rest of the experience, which so far, other than the reschedule of COVAD to a weekend (which I though I originally requested), has been quite painless.

1/1/2000 - forgot to mention that I got a confirmation email with my IP address and other important config info. It makes me feel like they know what they are doing over there, unlike other places you read about! KUDOS to you guys!!!
