Since I originally signed up for Verizon DSL 4+ years ago the speed keeps going up with the prices continuing to go down. Cant ask for more than that. I first started with Verizon I had to because my Comcast connection stopped working. I had many techs come out and many phone calls made to tech support. Comcast had no clue what the problem was and didnt know how ti fix it so I called Verizon and have had very little problems since. I am a very satisfied customer and look forward to when FIOS is availible in this area (hopefully for TV also) so I can be rid of Comcast all together.

    My Other Reviews·Verizon Online DSL
Ordered online on a Sunday. Had Service up Wed. Same week.

Very simple to setup. Solid Service.

For Dial up users the $14.95 plan is a great deal.

Year's up and price now $17.95/mo, but still rock solid and great backup connection.

    City: McMinnville, Oregon (97128)
    Telco, CLEC: Verizon WEST
    Modem: Westell Dual Connect 6100
    Provision: 768/128 ADSL
PPoE/DHCP: Seems to be DHCP, I installed modem as USB (too lazy to back on dialup and go download drivers for my nic card)
I also did NOT install any verizon propaganda from the install CD, except for using it to install the USB Modem drivers for the Westell.

Well, seeing as how I was paying for dialup at 10$ per month, and considering my local Telco (Verizon) charges over $20 a month to be able to call anywhere besides my local town and about three other local cities, I was somewhat limited as to my dial-up choices, and the cheapest dialup I was able to find gave me some pretty slow/unstable dialup #'s.

then one day I went browsing about online for broadband, as I so often did every couple of weeks ( I know the prices are going down and the companies are seemingly becoming more competetive as I can see anyway ). I preferred cable, but it, (Comcast for me) was just not worth the 50+ dollars per month, especially considering we are patient people, and rarely download anything bigger than 100mb's, I figured for us, it'd be a waste of $. I then went to Qwest but they did not serve us, (I figured much already, but thought I'd check anyway) As for SBC, no, no service from them either.

So I went to verizon... Of course the first thing I saw on the Broadband section of their site was that they were offering DSL for 14.99 monthly, I got excited and decided to read the TOS and AUP and saw that it was indeed a fixed price (for the 1yr contract anyway) and was unlimited transfer! I also was happy to see that all of their modems were offered w/ built-in Ethernet!

so I thought about it.... *hmmm, 5kB/sec dialup, which often now does not even connect at anywhere near 50,000kbps - OR 95+/- 10kbps (768/128) ADSL for $5 more per month..... considering we were most likely going to live there another year, and the early termination fee was only 79 dollars or so, I decided to go for it!

I have not been sorry about the decision ever since. This is also the first DSL service I've ever had, in the past I've mostly used Cable (TimeWarner/Adelphia)

The speeds are great! I get about a max download speed of 102kilobyte/PS

For the price, I think it is an excellent deal! Especially for my small town which has ridiculous cable prices (Comcast)

I honestly did not think it'd be this simple, quick, and painless!
    Good job Verizon!

I recently upgraded from an old 768/768 line which had been costing me $68/month plus $30 for webhosting. So, $98 plus surcharges per month which I thought was expensive but I liked having good speed, service was good when I needed it and was always reliable. I think I only noticed about two outages in about six years. I tested about 3-4 times per year and my speed was always very close to the stated 768/768.

I had been asleep at the wheel in terms of reviewing my service and woke up to the fact that Verizon has been ripping me off to the tune of about $40/month due to the fact that there are faster services that are now cheaper than mine and that bundle in services for which I am now paying. Finding the DSL terms was easy, I discovered the webhosting terms only after being accidently transvered to the Verizon Online department by mistake.

The new service is 3000/768 for $40/month and I can reduce my webhosting to $15/month for what I need. And they handle the domain registration.

The gotcha in the deal was that I couldn't just say "gimme some of dat". They said that I had to be disconnected for about two weeks while they upgraded the service. In order to get service configured the way that I want it, I had to bring up the new technology on another line, drop the old service and then bring the new technology up on the old DSL line and then drop the interim service. -- What a headache!

To make matters worse, I sat on hold and talked to about five incompetent people before I found someone who could explain that I was on old frame relay technology and that my account was "grandfathered" which put some arbitrary rules in place that essentially tried to keep the cash cows from switching to cheaper service. The whole process took 5-6 hours and a great deal of persistence and use of my "outdoor voice".

Until this incident I had always held Verizon and Verizon Wireless up as premiere examples of how to treat a customer. I have always dealt with very good, competent people -- I guess they've decided quality customer service no longer matters.

I'm on the interim service, it is noticably faster. The modem (Westell 6100) is smaller and has an off/on switch that my old one did not. The installation was easy. I didn't even open the software package and probably won't need it. I believe the package includes dynamic IP but I'm not sure.

Started on Frame Relay at 768/128 from Verizon then I got downgraded to dialup waited and then got ATM at 768/128. I had to fight to get 1.5/384 then I smoothly got upgraded to 3/768 and with that came the switch to the 71.xx.xx.xx ip block.

At first I had 15min dhcp lease times but it was within a week and they changed them to 2hrs lease times.

"Above average speeds, surprisingly decent tech support."
"Problem connecting to central office when setting up account."
"Once you get past the installation and connection to the CO, you're good to go."
Pre Sales information:

Value for money:

Speed: The 3.0 deal, I believe. Something like 3.0/768?

Monthly price: Likely $29 + FUSF? I haven't received my first bill yet.

    Order process online: Painless.

Installation process/connecting to CO: Painful. There was no sync for a while until a VZ tech came over to my house.

Home equipment: I'm not sure what is meant by this, but I'm running Pentium 4 with Windows XP Home Edition, with a Westell VersaLink 327W modem.

Well, after making a request for a tech and getting sync and therefore internet access, I am quite satisfied with Verizon DSL. Honestly, the early connection problems (blinking DSL light) weren't necessarily Verizon's fault (I think the tech said it had to do with some cross wire or wires crossing the wrong way), but I was more disappointed with how Verizon kept delaying the Service Ready Date for me. It was pushed back a total of 3 days. I also had problems with SBC DSL last year, so I guess I was kind of expecting some delays. Connection reliability (once you actually get a connection) is very reliable so far, which is why I gave it a "5". Tech suppot was also surprisingly good. In fact, their "overkindness" kind of drove me crazy, but I guess it's better than most. In terms of value, I suppose it's pretty good. At first, the only reason I got Verizon DSL was because SBC DSL wasn't available in my area (in terms of DSL services), but I'm starting to like Verizon. VZ's browser and e-mail program are kind of on the bad side. For VZ e-mail, you only get to keep your e-mails for 30 days. However, most people end up using other e-mail services (Yahoo!, gMail, and so forth) that it shouldn't really be a problem.

"Repeated provisioning errors; no communication between departments"
"Good provider if you can get the order completed"

Value for money:

I've used Verizon for over one year now, but as with the first order, my second order (after moving) was botched by provisioning. In 2004, provisioning simply lost the order. In 2005, they had recorded that I had canceled my order but could find no evidence that I had. The result is that they needed to replace my order which extended my Service Ready Date (SRD) from two weeks to four weeks.

The billing department is not in sync with the tech support department, and the tech support office is not in sync with provisioning. The result is that all three offices have different information from each other and none of them communicate notes between each. This also resulted in my getting notified that I had my service enabled seven days earlier then my second SRD, but the service would not actually be enabled until the SRD arrived.

After waiting another 7 days and wadding through Tech Support (most of the time wasted with the IVR insisting that "DSL support" means "Dial-up Support") I never did get DSL. They even next-day shipped a modem that never worked. The Customer Relations group that tried to hang onto my patronage promised a third-level tech would address my problems and their networking group would contact me. Tech support never got back with me and I still do not have DSL.

Verizon's loss is Comcast's gain. Total wasted time... 4 days.

Upgrading to 3/768 from old VADI 768/128 (had that for about 4-5 years).

I took me the better part of 2 or so hours to get this far, but once I was put in contact with a more local sales supervisor, it has gone smoothly. VZ is just too darn big and spread out, seems like the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.

Hopefully, connecting will go smoothly w/ a VZ-supplied Westell 6100 modem, which is much smaller than my old VZ-supplied Fujitsu.

Finally squared away on email after a month w/o it.

Easy installation from supplied Verizon DSL disc. Only problem I still have is that I have tried to dowload and install the Help & Support software from Verison's website. It will download 100% but will only install to 90%. I called Verizon support twice but they don't know what's wrong.
