I switched from Speedfactory (3M/384k service) after several of my internet radio stations would crap out maybe 10-15 min into listening to the stream. I suspected either they were over subscribed on the backbone (which they assured me they weren't) or they have some QOS (quality of service) issues with their routers, switches, backbone, etc... I then started to do some testing to see if the problems were with the stations I was tuned into. I started a series of test downloads from Microsoft, like MSOffice service packs and several other big file downloads from Microsoft. I noticed the downloads would jump from around 300k/s down to 80k/s; it was up and down randomly during business hours. Around 1:30-2:00am they would be rock solid at 360k/s. Thats when I knew there was a usage issue, at least from my house, and I decided to switch to DSC.
DSC switched me in about 3 days if I remember correctly. The service couldn't be better! I can download anything from Microsoft any time of day at a very solid 360k/s download speed. Any site with enough bandwidth to handle a 3M download works at 360k/s any time of day. BTW my sync stayed the same with both ISPs 3008/384 sync in the DSL modem. Latency is very good with either service also. Both ping google.com at around 28ms, yahoo.com around 36ms low hops for both. Like I said before the prob with Speedfactory was the sustained download speeds. The nice thing about DSC is they actually have a realtime net graph online for users in their IP space (updates every 5min). DSC has 1-GigE circuit and 4-100M circuits for a total of 1.4 Gigabits of backbone bandwidth. Lastly, DSC (like Speedfactory) is a GA based company; I like that my money is staying at home in my state and not being sent out to some other state's economy.
Oh forgot to mention, I'm paying $54/mo for 3000/384 with one static IP on a Bellsouth shared line. I think they have other options available for more IP's and various levels of bandwidth like 1500/256, etc... I'm told they can do a "Dry DSL" line through Covad, but you have to pay around $100 for a dedicated Covad line to be run from the street to your house. Thats it!
BTW the negative review below:
I'm not friends or related in any way to anyone at DSC so I can't vouch for anyone's character there, except they seem nice on the phone. Sounds like someone got fired and was pissed off. Just a guess...

What speed did you order, 256K at what monthly price? Included in package price with Domains at $99/mo How was the order/install process? The fastest yet of any provider, after signing contract- What was the home equipment? Cisco 827 and Netscreen firewall, -Static IP
-Other bad/good experiences?
I would recommend to ANYONE in need of a static IP and reliable service. I have come to know the people of DSC over the last few years, one thing I can tell you is that all of them, including those past employees know the reliability and capabilities of the team working there!
From what I can tell, DSC mostly deals with businesses or high end users and is willing to customize an application to fit the customers needs. I like this because there is less of a threat to having every "wantabe hacker" trying to experiment with the lastest Port probing software and bringing down everyone on the Cable Modem node. It is a very serious network with multiple MB fiber going out, very nice.
If you are getting booted off the net so that you have to obtain a new IP address every evening or experiencing congestion, give these guys a call.
Need to advertise more guys, your worth it!

I have been using Digital Service Consultants DSL services for the past three years. My connection is always up. I use my DSL to run web servers for my home based business. DSC is the only company I have found that offers static ips and allows me to run my web based business using their DSL service.
I ordered SDSL 144/144 on January 7, 2000. The technician was courteous, professional and on time. The complete install only took 45 minutes. I used this service for one year without incident.
Although I never had any problems with my SDSL service, I decided to change to a faster ADSL connection in August 2000. When I picked my router up a week later, the technical staff had it configured, ready and waiting. They took the time to answer all of my questions knowledgeably and courteously.
I did my own installation including the line filter and router in about an hour. I had both SDSL and ADSL connections until January 2001 when my contract was up on the SDSL. When I asked DSC to double my connection speed their technicians were able to process my request over the phone and without incident.
My service has been very reliable over the past three years (granted construction in my area with lines cut) and virtually problem free.
I like the fact that when I do call with a question or request that I am actually able to speak with a live human being instead of an automated voice mail system. My experience with DSC has been above and beyond my expectations. I would highly recommend to anyone that needs DSL service to give these guys a call.

4/26/01 RE: DSC - ISP
This company has been my ISP for 5 years. I recently got ADSL from them, when it became available in my area, as I work from home a great deal via laptop. I chose them because they provide a static IP address which I needed to access my company network. The installation went great- except for a Bell South problem. The installer was pleasant, courteous and knowledgeable. He explained everything as he was doing it and answered every question I had. I have had only one problem and that was with my ADSL modem after multiple power outages during some severe thunderstorms. When I called the company their service tech helped me get back in service quickly and efficiently. I am very happy with their service - and their monthly rate is very competitive as well.
