"Oplink is WONDERFUL!"
| |
I just had to tell you that I am so happy that I found Oplink.net through your website. I was using EV1 which was sold to PeoplePC which I hated even before they bought EV1, so I statred to look for another carrier. I looked at the usual suspects for dial-up and nothing struck me as being much different. A friend at work mentioned about DSL Reports which I went to, but found out DSL is not offered where I live. In checking the reviews you had listed by smooth ride, mixed, horror story, (of which peoplepc should be, more later), I saw Oplink in the smooth ride and they were a local company. I contacted them to find they offered dial-up at a reasonable price, so signed on. The service has been extraordinarily good and the dial up is faster than most. Technical service is always right there to answer the phone IN PERSON, not a phone tree or answer your email in minutes or hours, not days like the others!
As for PeoplePC, when I got their CD to install, I followed all the instructions, but found I had to constantly reboot my computer to "align" the files properly to have my dial up work. They say the number you call is the fastest available in your area for a list you select of local numbers to call, but when you are signed in, the files or downloads either don't connect or don't load very well. Several times I had to cancel my download, reboot my computer, re-sign in, and do it all over again! I canceled the service as quickly as I could.

Ordered 1.5/384 Service for Seabrook TX. We are over 10,000 ft from exchange but we get the maximum rates!
We moved from England in July 2006, and I have used an amazing isp in England called Andrews and Arnold »aa.nu who I thought were second to none. It seems I was wrong. Ryan at Oplink was courteous and always quick to respond to my queries.
I eventually ordered the service while making the transatlantic crossing on the Queen Mary 2 at the end of July. By the time we had driven from New York to Texas (we had to because of our pets!) we had a working service and a DSL Modem sat in the mailbox! NOW you just cannot get a better service than that.
I was able to connect myself up with the laptop on the evening of our arrival and email my folks in the UK.
The next day I wanted to plug in my 834GT and was unsure of the settings, Ryan replied to my email within MINUTES! and I was soon connected wirelessly and sipping a Rita by the pool!
Thanks Ryan! You made a difficult process very easy for us.
Not a single problem with the service since - excellent speeds and ping rates.

Ryan from Oplink was the person assisting me. He provided excellent information and bargaining online through their AIM console which can be found on their website. All preliminary questions were answered with high accuracy. Ryan also gave me a custom package to move me off TWC which I was paying for residential RR (5mbit down/ 384kbits up). The first month was given to me free, followed by 44.95 a month and the package was the Surfer Plus which had 6 static IP addresses with 3mbit down and 512kbits up.
I received my DSL welcome kit in 1 business day. It took 10 days to activate mainly because it was during Thanksgiving week. Otherwise, it would've been half that time or less.
The contract documentation is simple, straight forward and easy to understand. Online process setup was a snap.
The only hitch I ran into was that the DSL speed seemed slow and it was only running in the 1.5-1.65 mbit range down. I contacted the original POC; Ryan, and he corrected this immediately (within several hours on a Sunday!). They had to call SBC and get the telco moving; this wasn't oplink's fault, it was the telco.
My only complaint is the website needs to be more professional looking to attract wary customers.

I had previous bad experiences with SWBell, and even worse when I tried Earthlink - they could not provide the service they promised at all, and customer support was abysmal. I then discovered Oplink on BroadbandReports, and tried them. A world of Difference. No charge for the equipment, no charge for shipping, no charge for activation, equipment warrantied for life. And real live humans to talk to and help set up the service at my own time of choosing! I chose the DSL Standard Plus service ( dynamic IP, 3.0 Megs down/512K up) and it worked right out of the box, in 2 minutes. Fee is 24.95monthly for first 6 months, then 34.95 after that, Free 56K dialup if needed. And 2Gb storage for e-mails.
Why can't everybody do this, outside Houston?

I have to say that I am impressed. I've been a slave to dial up since 1993, 13 years! I first tried getting DSL abck in 1999 through Southwestern Bell, and that was a disaster. I did not want to go with AT&T because they have become even more incompetent since the "merger". I found oplink on this site(the same sight I went to back in 1999) and gave them a call. The people that answer are friendly and knowledgable and easy to talk too. I ordered my service, 1.5 down, 14.95 for 6 months and 29 for the last six. I got my modem in the mail the NEXT DAY. I was live on the morning of my start date and acheived maximum download speed 2 days later. Such a difference when a file downloads @ 150k compared to 5! The service is great and in this day and age of having to call a foreign country for tech help, it's nice to talk to the same person twice or more.

We had service problems with our previous provider and decided to switch to Oplink (also receiving a huge bump in speed). After making the decision to switch, our service from the previous provider stopped, and this was WELL before the change-over date. The guys at Oplink did everything they could to get us up and running on their service as soon as possible, kept me posted on the status, and helped out above and beyond what I would have expected. I highly recommend this company. Pricing and speed are pretty good too!

I usually don't write reviews but I just have to tell you about the service that I get with Oplink. I have been with them for I'm guessing about at least 5 years when DSL first started in my area. Everytime I call in for help which is not very often I get Ryan who is their tech. He is always helpful and pretty friendly. But I just want to tell you about the time my DSL modem went out. It was a friday and I was lucky I was off. I have had this modem since I started with Oplink so it has been well used. I was having a problem getting on the internet and after having my son get bring his modem over I found out it was the modem. It was about 5:30pm I called Oplink and they close at 5:00 and I asked if I could pick one up and I explained that I needed to do some work over the weekend. Ryan answered the phone. I told him about my problem and he said he would call me back. About 10 minutes went by and he called back and said I could come to their office on Saturday morning at 10:00am and pick it up. I went there and the Owner of Oplink was there with my modem. That in it self was great but even better he lives 30-40 miles away fom the office. And he made a special trip just so I could get a modem. I asked him why he did this and he said you have been a good customer. That was great. I could have switched to cable or another ISP at any time but I think I'll be a loyal customer for a very long time. That was the best service I have ever had with any company not just ISP's.

I own a technology company in the Houston Galleria, and I need reliable broadband.
Ordered the Surfer Plus DSL 3000 down, 512 up. I get a steady 25XX up speed and 44X down, which is as good as it gets without having your own private leased line and paying thru the nose for it.
I'm enjoying piece of mind whenever I can. Thank you Oplink.
