Although Sympatico will claim this contract no longer exists if you ask about it, they will give you the HSE service for $34.95 a month on a one-year contract if you press them by threatening to cancel or switch to another ISP. (Ordinarily, this price is only available to subscribers in Québec to compete with Vidéotron.) Mentioning Rogers and their latest promo, or the mandatory modem rental, or substandard service, or whatever annoys you, can provide a bit of additional leverage and arm-twisting.

If you mention Vidéotron's $29.95 rate, Sympatico may give you a contract to match.

$29.95 per month in Ontario
If you mention a competing ISP such as 3web or IGS offering a monthly $29.95 rate, Sympatico may give you a contract to match. However this is extremely unlikely.

There are also other deals and rates available. It also depends on the customer service rep you are talking to. Some are more willing to do this than others, so if you don't succeed the first time, call again later and speak to someone else. If you are a long-time customer, this can also work to your advantage.
