Try to make the most of what you have before spending a lot of time or money on signal boosters, repeaters or external antennae.

* Change the position of the devices to see if you can get a better signal.
* Adjust the position of the antenna on either the router of the client to optimize the signal.
* Change the channel on the wireless router or access point in an attempt to avoid sources of interference.
* Try an inexpensive reflector to focus the signal in the desired direction. Some excellent templates and instructions: »www.freeantennas.com

Understand that wireless networks operate on very little power and are subject to interference from microwave ovens, certain cordless telephones and other wireless network devices. The quality of the wireless gear is also a factor. Some simply perform better than others.
