Before making any latency tests, close any bandwith consuming applications such as P2P applications and file sharing programs. Also, it is better to connect the modem directly in the computer if you are using a router and deactivate any firewall that may be active.

1. Click on Start, then Run
2. Type command for Windows 98 and Millenium or cmd for Windows 2000 and XP and press OK
3. Type ping -n 10 www.videotron.ca
4. Write down the following lines. You should get ping results. Generally, everything under 50ms is quite good, over 150ms is a little bit too much. Consult the forum or start a new thread if you need further help interpretating the data! A friendly user will most probably help you !

For more precision, repeat the test with these sites:

  • ftp.videotron.ca
  • www.google.ca
