If you have subscribed for an Unlisted Number (additional charge) with your TBB service, you should be aware of the following:

  1. Your Primary TBB number will not be listed in the WhitePages phonebooks, either hardcopy or electronic (www.canada411.com).

NOTE: Even though you may not be subscribed to Unlisted Number, your number may still be unpublished. This can happen if your Primary Number is in a different Whitepages geographical region compared to your street address. Thus, for TECHNICAL reasons, it cannot be published. For example, you cannot live in Vancouver with a Primary number in Montreal and expect your number to show in either the Vancouver or Montreal phonebooks. This is because Vancouver cannot show an out-of-town (area code) phone number, and Montreal cannot show a listing for a Vancouver street address!

  2. Your TBB line has a particular form of Permanent Outgoing CallerID block. In other words, your TBB phone number never gets sent when you dial out; rather, Your CallerID is Masked (shows a dummy #) on the call recipients' Call Display.

You can override the "Masked Number", on a per call basis:

    • To send your Primary TBB number in the Outgoing CLI, first dial *82 before dialing the telephone number.

    • To block the Outgoing CLI (i.e. "private"), first dial *67 before dialing the telephone number.

      Some Details
Telcos generally have no interest in providing OUTGOING CALLER ID BLOCK since it would defeat the purpose of selling (Visual) CallerID. Furthermore, if there was a single one-time or monthly charge of $2.00 to BLOCK CLI, everyone would do this, and the CallerID feature - valuable to PSTN Telcos for $$$ revenue -- would become worthless!

For example, Bell Canada charges $2.00/mth to have an Unlisted number (white pages, canada411). However, Bell does NOT provide Permanent Outgoing Caller ID block - although they will block your name, they will NOT block your number, except on a per call basis (using *67 as shown above).

  • I have a friend who has a Telus land line and has permanent Outgoing Caller ID block. It shows up as Private Name and no phone # on your system.
