Typically you don’t want to role claim unless you absolutely have to. Here are some pointers: If you are one vote away from being lynched you may want to reveal your role. If you are pro-town do not lie about your role (for instance if you are a townie about to be lynched, don’t claim cop – the real cop may counter claim. This gives the mafia more information to base their night kill on). If you are the cop, you may want to role claim once you discover a member of the mafia. If it is early in the game you may wait a day or two to get a few more results first, but don’t wait to long (the mafia might kill you before you can speak). When the cop claims, he should share all the information he has. At the end of the game knowing who is good can be just as important as knowing who is bad. If you are the doc, you should avoid role claiming at all costs. Mafia want to try to follow the same rules as townsfolk, so that they do not stick out in any way. However, mafia might claim a power role to see if someone will counter claim. Sometimes sacrificing one member of the mafia to discover who the cop is is worth it!
