Wikipedia defines spyware as a program that surreptitiously monitors and reports the actions of a computer user.

There are many popular programs that will help you get rid of unwanted and intrusive spyware and keep your system running smoothly. A lot of these programs are also FREE, which is always a plus.

This years poll once again provided a victory for Spybot Search & Destroy with 18.7% of the vote. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware came in second with 13.9% while SpywareBlaster came in right behind with 12.8%.

Spybot Search & Destroy takes very few resources to operate, and runs under Windows XP/Vista/7.

There were many other choices included in this years poll as well. Here is the breakdown of those results:

A wide number of respondents noted that they used a layered approach when it came to fighting spyware. Running many of these programs is the most effective way of cleaning out spyware that may be missed if just running one program. But the best way to start is to install Spybot Search & Destroy to keep your system safe!
