Q. What is MoCA Networking?

A. MoCA Networking is designed to use your existing coax cabling as the physical media in an ethernet network. MoCA Networking can coexist with video on coax.

In a typical FiOS installation, two MoCA channels are used.

•MoCA WAN carries the internet signal from the ONT to the router.

•MoCA LAN is used between the router and the STBs.

MoCA WAN and MoCA LAN operate on different frequencies above those used by TV. All Verizon-branded routers support both MoCA WAN and MoCA LAN.

It's possible to take advantage of this capability to extend your home network.

Feedback received on this FAQ entry:
  • Our Frontier FiOS internet has been upgraded to a super-fast speed and apparently there is an Ethernet cable from the ONT to our router. I think that makes this answer obsolete.
