  • Preferred FTP Managers - 2011 Member Choice
Wikipedia defines FTP (file transfer protocol) as "a standard network protocol used to copy a file from one host to another over a TCP-based network, such as the Internet. FTP is built on a client-server architecture and utilizes separate control and data connections between the client and server. FTP users may authenticate themselves using a clear-text sign-in protocol but can connect anonymously if the server is configured to allow it. The first FTP client applications were interactive command-line tools, implementing standard commands and syntax. Graphical user interface clients have since been developed for many of the popular desktop operating systems in use today."

Our 2011 Member Choice Poll results are in. Once again, the first choice by a large margin was FileZilla with 33% of the votes. In second place was a tie between using no FTP manager at all and using the FTP client built into a web browser, with each choice earning 12% of the votes. Not far behind them was WS_FTP with 10% of the votes.

Other FTP managers that received a significant number of votes included:
Core FTP
Command line FTP managers (such as NcFTP, wget, and the FTP client built into the OS)
