U-Verse subscribers are USUALLY served their services via VDSL2+, or; Very-high-bit-rate digital subscriber line 2 (VDSL2). It is an access technology that exploits the existing infrastructure of copper wires that were originally deployed for traditional telephone service as a way of delivering very high speed internet access. The main high-speed link (e.g. a fibre optic connection) terminates at a hub near the customers' location. The existing copper wire infrastructure is then used to carry the high speed connection for the short remaining distance to the customers. It can be deployed from central offices, from fiber-optic connected cabinets located near the customer premises, or within buildings. It has been defined in standard ITU-T G.993.2 finalized in 2005.
Internet is provided to computers connected to the on-premises Ethernet cabling or wi-fi from the included residential gateway or DSL modem.

The power service requires two conditioned line pairs (pair bond) and the Motorola NVG589 VDSL2+ Gateway. There is a $99 service charge to condition and pair bond the lines and install the new gateway. Because of the Motorola NVG589, true bridge mode support is available for the first time with U-verse (last available with ADSL with speeds of less than 6Mbit/s), which allows for customers to use their own routers to full potential for services such as VPN (ipsec, L2TP, and SSL)and dynamic DNS. "In Bridge mode, the Gateway acts as a pass-through device and allows the workstations on your LAN to have public addresses directly on the Internet. For the first year, Power initially costs $10 more than Max Turbo, plus the standard u-verse rate of $10 more for every 50GB used over 250GB in a billing month.

At present, the Power 45/6 tier requires VDSL2 Pair Bonding, and therefore is not available to ADSL2+ or xPON customers. Also, MDU locations (Apartments, Condos, Duplexes, Townhouses, etc) are also typically disqualified from Pair Bonding at present. Typically you are considered an MDU location if your point of Demarcation/NID is "shared" with other units in your building. There are instances, typically townhouses, where individual units in a building will have their own NIDs - those are typically considered SFUs and would thus qualify for VDSL2 Pair Bonding
