Yes, it can be done.

A regular modem such as the Speedstream 5100 will also work with FreeBSD's ppp client to route all the static IPs. You actually have 6 IPs available for use. One for the router itself (the FreeBSD box) and the other 5 for other machines. The ppp setup described here works fine: »www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO885···poe.html
