Why are Yahoo/MSN IM's dropped after 10 minutes?

Lots of people are seeing disconnects from Yahoo and MSN instant messengers after 10 minutes of inactivity. I started noticing this after replacing a Netgear RT314 with a Linksys BEFW11S4.
