The System File Checker was Microsoft's first attempt to provide a method to repair the Operating System. SFC can correct a lot of problems, but you need to keep a few things in mind.
•After making repairs with SFC, you should re-apply all System Updates.•SFC has a known issue regarding extraction of incorrect files. Please refer to MSKB Article # Q192832 for information. Note - the problem referenced in this article was reportedly fixed in W98SE. •It's also a good idea to learn how SFC creates its baseline for repair. You can refer to MSKB Article # Q188186 for more detail.
System File Checker is found in the the
System Information Tool and can be accessed in two ways:
•Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Information. •Click Start, click Run, type "msinfo32.exe" (without quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click OK.
