For the SMC 7008ABR, upgrade the firmware to v1.41.008. After that you can change the MTU value at Setup | WAN | PPPoE. This only applies to the PPPoE WAN protocol, not to DHCP or static IP.
At this time, there is no MTU changes in ABR firmware.
