This feature allows you to follow a topic so that you can see updates to it even if it has not been posted to. You do this by clicking on the "Follow this topic" icon at the bottom of the thread.

Every topic you post in will, by default, be followed. This enables you to easily follow your posted-in threads via the "My posts" area.

----
To Un-follow a thread, you simply click on the "Stop following" link at the bottom of the thread:

or see "How about ignoring topic updates" below.

Any followed topic can also be marked. Marking them means they join a collection of topics you have previously marked, and you can pull them up at any time and page back through them. They are, in a sense, bookmarks stored by the site for your login ID.

You may view your followed posts as well as other aspects of your activities on the site at any time by going to the "My Posts" area, which is accessible here:

or from the "My" area of the menu. There you will see these options:

Note: When you go to the "My Posts" page, the default view will be the one you last selected for that page. To change it, simply select another view, such as "Updated Followed," and that will be the view you see when you next open that page.

How about Ignoring Topic Updates?
You may stop following a topic here also by clicking on the word "stop" to the left of any topic, as shown below:

or the "stop" link in the "UPDATED FOLLOWED TOPICS" page.

Mark All Read:
Tip: If you have a number of followed topics in one forum that you'd like to clear, go to your Favorite Forums page, -> View 1 <- and you will find a "Clear" link available for each forum. That link will set all threads in that forum to "read." There is also a link at the top that will set ALL forums in your favorites to all read.

All Forums Page:

On the All Forums Page, the envelope icons will show for the forums that you have selected as favorites only. All others will show as

A few more points:

Q: OK, if I post to 100 different threads in one day, does that mean they all get added to my follow list? And they stay there forever?

A: They stay (visible or invisible depending on which view) until you un-follow them. A link at the end of the topic is there for that.

Q: Then how do I find the stuff I really want to follow, or want to save for future reference?

A: Follow the topic, then select "sitemark" at the bottom. The thread will then be added to your sitemarked list, and the next screen will show that list.
