First of all it depends whether it's an *.avi or *.mpg file...

If it's an *avi use the AVI Preview tool, a program which is capable of playing partially downloaded AVI movies.
It's now bundled with KaZaA Lite (v2.0 Build 2)
or available from: www.avipreview.com

You just drag-n-drop your dat file into "AVIPreview" and watch the movie! And you do not have to close KaZaA.
Key Benefits:
• Preview AVI files without interruption of the download process
• Uses standard DirectX framework - no additional software needed
• Very simple interface
• Does not change the original video file in any way
• It is Free!

It is very compact and not overloaded with bunch of functions. It does not claim to be the best (most advanced) player around. It does that it claims, give you an ability to preview the content of the avi file.

For *mpg's copy the file that is downloading and paste the partial file you copied somewhere else... so, if you have a .dat file that will become an .mpg you can often times preview some of it by renaming the pasted file to .dat.mpg (or whatever with the *.mpg extension).

In the event that doesn't work, you can also try opening the pasted file with virtualdub and click the play button.

Virtualdub available from:
www.virtualdub.org OR www.vcdhelp.com
