When you attempt to select "Internet Options" on the Tools Menu you may be presented with an error message...."This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

A few of the possible causes are listed below:
  • Because you are part of a domain and the Administrator has created a Group Policy forbidding access to Internet Options.
  • Your browser has been what some refer to as Highjacked and an entry was possibly made in your registry that prevents the use of Internet Options. If you feel comfortable editing the registry you can locate the below registry key.

    HKey_Current_User/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Restrictions

After selecting the Restrictions key....If the value called NoBrowserOptions exists in the data area to the right of Restrictions, delete this value and restart the machine.
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  • If you use the program Spybot Search and Destroy, you can read their FAQ concerning how this can happen with their program....I can't access my IE settings any more!
