We now have limited ability to store and retrieve files on a forum-by-forum basis (optional). The value of this feature won't be immediately apparent to everyone, but for gaming, distributed computing and some of the tech forums that make use of files and updates, it could be quite useful.
You may browse the FTP directories and their contents by entering the "Forums" menu item (left of the page) and selecting "FTP Files."
The FTP directories are mostly named after the forum they are associated with, using the forum "short name" (the one you see in the browser address bar).
Please note that only moderators have the ability to upload files and make new directories, but any registered user can download from them. However, to do so, you must first visit this link: /ftpenable.
You'll see a brief "OK" page, and after waiting one minute, you will then be able to download files. You cannot write or delete; you may only download. Also, the access you initiated by visiting the "enable" page expires in three hours. To revisit, you have to repeat the process.
Use your site password when asked. If you use your own FTP program, after enabling via the link above, use your site user name and password.
If you think there is a need for additional files and directories, contact the host of the concerned forum and discuss it with him/her. 12/03
