Atlanta Motor Speedway is arguably the fastest track in NASCAR, frequenly measured by the top qualifying speeds of the year on the 1.5+ mile oval. The NASCAR Nextel Cup series makes two appearances a year at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The 2005 schedule includes a race on March 20 and October 30 during the 10 race Chase for the Cup.

The Craftsman Truck Series will race this year in Atlanta on March 18 (Night) and October 29.

The NASCAR Busch series will run March 19 in a move to the spring. In previous years the Busch series had accompanied the fall race.

AMS usually adds additional ARCA or other races to the cup weekends, and is rumored to be looking at a sprint car race on the legends track. Legends cars run a summer schedule as well. Website: »www.atlantamotorspeedway.com/

Staying with the premier NASCAR Touring Series, people will find Atlanta well situated as a hub for visiting other race tracks. Talladega is a 2 hour ride, Charlotte and Darlington about 4 hours, and Daytona is about 7 hours away.

Local racing focuses primairly at the Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, a short trip from Downtown north on I85. Lanier is home of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series and a stop on the ARCA/Remax series schedule. Find their site and schedule at: »www.lanierspeedway.com/.
