5.0 IM (instant message)

·IM sent, Last Seen was 1754w2d
·IM notification bug
·No graphics in IMs?
·IM delivered 3 hours late
·Ignore IMs Suddenly Cleared
I just sent an IM and it said;

It means there's no record of the user visiting the site..

The msg is misleading.. it should really say "user never logged in".

It's taking the Unix Date of Jan 1, 1970.

I noticed the last few days that after viewing an IM, if I go back to the forum via my favorites button, I am getting the same IM notification. Nothing's changed on my machine and its happened on multiple computers, so it isn't a local caching issue. If I click on the favorites button a 2nd time, the IM notification goes away.

If you see a flashing notification you think is OLD, then if you push REFRESH, does it go away? it does? in which case, you are seeing the cached page. If you push refresh (or click another link) and it vanishes, then it is not a server-side issue.

if I type 'news.yahoo.com' I get the old news page. If I refresh I get the new one. Its a browser problem, typed URLs do not seem to talk to the server at all if they can deal you an old page from the cache.

One of the positive changes I noticed when I was finally able to come back to the site was that we were able to send graphics to one another in IMs again. Now, it seems that there has been another change where that is no longer the case.

Is there a reason you can tell us about for this change?

This feature has been disabled, again.

Anyone else seeing this? Only one occurrence for moi but I did find it odd. The person was "last online" over 3 hours prior but the IM said "NOW"

Probably not delivered late. The idle timer, is not reset by all functions. In Particular, the IM screen, will not affect the idle time at all. Even though you have an IM screen up and in the middle of an IM conversation, it will not be reflected by the idle/active time.

I guess, maybe from justin See Profile's point of view that unless you're actively browsing and replying to post, then you're not active????

When I logged on today, there were 4 IMs waiting for me from idiots I placed on Ignore months ago. I had to go to their user profile and put them back on Ignore so their IMs would disappear without me having to read their hate mail. Because I didn't physically write down the names of the members I had on Ignore (and I forget who they all were), I now must wait for them to send me hate IMs and once again put them on my Ignore list.

Why did the Ignore feature suddenly stop working? This isn't the first time it happened either.

Ignoring IM's does expire, and has to be reactivated. I don't know the time period, but I believe it's about a month. It's always been like that to the best of my knowledge.

I think people have asked before for it to be changed, and so far it hasn't. It was set up this way deliberately. Though I don't know the reasons, I'm guessing that it was so that people didn't forget they had blocked someone's IM's.
