Search multi-page

»/nsearch?q=&an···1&168=1\

has several pages of matches, but I can only bring up the 1st page. :hmm:

You cant tell it to reorder by date either.

I know what is wrong, for now, do the packet8 search first

»/nsearch?q=pac···1&168=1\

then do the broadvoice one.. you can page through both no problem.

I changed a timeout - in case it breaks something

The only possible impact would be on either long downloads or long uploads. If you get sudden termination of a download or upload (or big page load) that used to work if left for a minute or more, then let me know by posting here. Thanks.

Forum post bug (Run Time Error)

A Run Time Error has occurred.

Do you wish to Debug?

Line 13
Error: 'document.pform.notes' is null or not an object.

quote:
See attached. Happened just after I clicked 'Spell Check', changed one word, and then clicked 'Post Now', and then got that error. I still wound up on the right page, so I just clicked through error and was fine.

At the time, I was using Windows XP Pro and Internet Explorer version 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633.

I hope nobody else has posted about this, but each and every time I click on the Post Now button, and get a popup error message when the Random Star Trek fortune page appears. This happens on all of my boxes and my laptop too.

Broken [search=xxx] tag

Due to a recent thread where a member was attempting to use the [search=xxx] tag as mentioned in the....How to....it appears it is broken?

Its disabled, I don't think it was used very much at all, and it was screwing up something else.

-1m instead of Now!

Off by one, baby!

That's all, I've seen some -1m in my favorite forums list instead of the word Now!. Maybe it is just the first time I noticed it, maybe not.

Not a bug. It's administrative. The time is off and it will be corrected shortly, so there is no reason to post about it.

This can happen as a result of the server time or client time.

If it hasn't cleared itself up after an extended period of time (a day?), then try posting in "Need Site Help", to see if you're the only one.

2.0 Login

Something wrong with the login sequence

I am being asked to confirm my password each time I come to the site. This just started today. After I enter the password I get an error screen the says "something is wrong" please log out - or something like that. This happened three times in a row. It finally lets me login after about two or three tries.

Probably a corrupt cookie... I killed all yours so you'll have to login again..

If it's still a problem, try cleaning out your cache.

Login Cookie being Stubborn?

I keep getting the "Cookies Enabled?" error each time I log in...can't get in.

I've enabled cookies and everything.

This is happening on Mozilla and IE6.

ZAP had cookies blocked.

3.0 Avatar

No Avatar.

I keep losing my avatar any suggestions? It is loaded.

An Avatar must be approved. Once it has been approved, you will receive a message from the system, stating it has been approved. It will now take a few minutes, maybe 10, to cycle through all the servers.

Incorrect Avatar Size (Not Square)

I tried uploading a new avatar which is 50x50, but I get the following message telling me it's not square. How can I make it more square than square?

This may be happening because your uploaded avatar is the appropriate pixels or you have an "_" in the filename.

4.0 Member Page

My posts paging acting up again

As you can see from the two images, my Posts page shows NeoGeo64 as having the last post on the page. It lists the time as 7:03.

The image of the page shows differently. Yes, I understand that the anonymous post won't get listed as last on my page, but Techie2000's post *will*. Why isn't Techie's post listed as last ?? It seems to be ignoring him... Also note the time of NeoGeo's post from 'posts1.jpg' and the time of the anonymous post in 'posts2.jpg'.

Got it!
Thanks to your more detailed comments, I went and looked at the thread.

I think it's a mix of two oddities.

1. The "Last Poster" tag was applied as NeoGeo64 due to post watch - so he's the last poster even though Techie2000 last a post after him.

2. Then an anonymous poster came along. Anonymous posts do update the "Last Post" time, but do not show a poster identity. The previous one is left untouched.

Voila! You now have a "post time" for one person and a "posted by" for another.

5.0 IM (instant message)

IM sent, Last Seen was 1754w2d

I just sent an IM and it said;

It means there's no record of the user visiting the site..

The msg is misleading.. it should really say "user never logged in".

It's taking the Unix Date of Jan 1, 1970.

IM notification bug

I noticed the last few days that after viewing an IM, if I go back to the forum via my favorites button, I am getting the same IM notification. Nothing's changed on my machine and its happened on multiple computers, so it isn't a local caching issue. If I click on the favorites button a 2nd time, the IM notification goes away.

If you see a flashing notification you think is OLD, then if you push REFRESH, does it go away? it does? in which case, you are seeing the cached page. If you push refresh (or click another link) and it vanishes, then it is not a server-side issue.

if I type 'news.yahoo.com' I get the old news page. If I refresh I get the new one. Its a browser problem, typed URLs do not seem to talk to the server at all if they can deal you an old page from the cache.

No graphics in IMs?

One of the positive changes I noticed when I was finally able to come back to the site was that we were able to send graphics to one another in IMs again. Now, it seems that there has been another change where that is no longer the case.

Is there a reason you can tell us about for this change?

This feature has been disabled, again.

IM delivered 3 hours late

Anyone else seeing this? Only one occurrence for moi but I did find it odd. The person was "last online" over 3 hours prior but the IM said "NOW"

Probably not delivered late. The idle timer, is not reset by all functions. In Particular, the IM screen, will not affect the idle time at all. Even though you have an IM screen up and in the middle of an IM conversation, it will not be reflected by the idle/active time.

I guess, maybe from justin See Profile's point of view that unless you're actively browsing and replying to post, then you're not active????

Ignore IMs Suddenly Cleared

When I logged on today, there were 4 IMs waiting for me from idiots I placed on Ignore months ago. I had to go to their user profile and put them back on Ignore so their IMs would disappear without me having to read their hate mail. Because I didn't physically write down the names of the members I had on Ignore (and I forget who they all were), I now must wait for them to send me hate IMs and once again put them on my Ignore list.

Why did the Ignore feature suddenly stop working? This isn't the first time it happened either.

Ignoring IM's does expire, and has to be reactivated. I don't know the time period, but I believe it's about a month. It's always been like that to the best of my knowledge.

I think people have asked before for it to be changed, and so far it hasn't. It was set up this way deliberately. Though I don't know the reasons, I'm guessing that it was so that people didn't forget they had blocked someone's IM's.

6.0 Posting

Why is the reply count wrong, leading to a blank page?

Why is it that towards the end of a thread, one often finds "Next Page" offered, but it goes to an "empty" page?

Surely this is either a "one-off" error (zero-origin vs 1-origin) or a simple miscalculation.

...It happens when replies are deleted and the delete tag is trimmed out of the thread, or when inappropriate replies are trimmed out of the thread.

Post paging - empty page problem

I'm frequently seeing the board show a page # that's blank. I think it happens when there's an exact number of posts, e.g. if I have 15 posts per page, and there are 30 posts in the topic, I'll see "1 2 3", where the 3rd link takes me to an empty page.

That can happen when a Mod removes posts from a thread. The tracking of the number of posts for the thread seems to stay the same even though some of the posts are no longer there, so it displays it as if all of the posts still existed.

...It happens when replies are deleted and the delete tag is trimmed out of the thread, or when inappropriate replies are trimmed out of the thread.

Thumbs up pop-up chopped, in Mozilla

When trying to give someone an "atta-boy" thumbs up, the pop-up window is cut in half.

Any way to fix this?

Using Windows XP, Mozilla 1.4.

I believe the bug only occurs when using the "Classic" theme. Try changing it ...

I do not see the bug when using the Modern theme.

Reply Bug.

I am trying to reply to an answer I received here:

/forum/remark,8124514~root=equip,9~mode=flat;start=20

and when I go to reply thanks, I get duplicate post, seen this text already, but its not there..

The duplicate check is site-wide, not just for a specific forum or thread.

Add a couple of spaces, or another sentence.

You can also throw in an html command like < /i>

Smiley text not translated to image when using [code] block or "pre" tag

Smiles

If something like that was posted and explained before - I'm sorry. Show me a link. And may be it's not a bug at all, but I've tried several times to post that page and it did not show smiles as I expected. Between those attempts I tried to make other posts - with success (as usual), they all show common smiles (like this one ).

Is it something wrong with that particular post?
And what should I do to avoid the problem in future?

My default preference - show smiles.

Thank you .

said by justin See Profile:
even though it is not consistent behavior it is extremely low on my priority list to fix. A smilie doesn't HAVE to be a cute graphic. A text smilie or text wink is understood universally. Code blocks are usually used for topics that are not just excuses for social chit chat.

Many other users are experiencing this error and I'm wondering if it's a database problem or something.

It happens if there were more than a few posts with less than a few words made to the topics in the last few hours.

Stops fast-growing topics with nonsense posts.

HTTP links don't always work in posts

As can be seen in the following post:
/forum/remark,11378849~mode=flat
the http code does not always result in a linkable connection. This appears to happen when the HTTP link is posted right after an /quote passage. I have seen this in many posts, including my own. Often I need to add blanks and enter for a new line to get the HTTP code to create a linkable result.

I did a search of this forum to see if this problem was posted before and couldn't find any. I apologize if this problem has already been reported and is being worked on.

since the parsing is done in a loop until all are found, in order not to get caught looping, it does not parse what look like urls after quotes or angle brackets because otherwise it would match post substitution as well as pre.

There is certainly a better regex expression that could be used, or the parsing could be done in two stages, first replacing links with tokens then replacing tokens with html, to avoid this, but I'm too lazy to change that right now given the few posts it impacts.

FTP Access problem

I visited the ftp enable link, and I am unable to access the ftp site via two different programs I tried. It would prompt for the password, and would give an incorrect login error. I waited at least a minute before I even started trying to connect to the ftp server.

So I logged out of the site, and logged back in through my browser just to make sure, there was no problem logging back into the site with the same exact username/password.

I tried with my command line ftp program three times, all came back with the error so I tried from the webpage which lets you browse the folders contents for a direct download, you just need to type in your password, and that gave the same error.

I can only guess that there is a minor problem right now as I was able to access the ftp site in the past, and the only thing that has changed is I have changed my password a while ago from 10 to 15 characters.

1. Make sure you enter your member name and password exactly as you normally enter it, with the same case.

2. Passwords are limited to 12 chars max.

9.0 Speed Test

Speed test comments show/no-show

Recently ran a speed test, and for a comment I entered: "Why don't comments appear in history?" I then followed through and did a search for speed tests in my zip (15317) and was surprised to see that my comment did show up there. I then checked my test history, found my test; and a header for the comment field ... but the comment field remains blank.

the comment is saved if you optionally record your details in the public archive after the test is done.
The private results are saved from the applet before you get to that part, hence, no comment. And there is no easy way to link them either.

DSL Reports Speed Tests Wouldn't Complete

I had been having problems with the Speed Tests here, in that they would start..but then never complete...just sit there....

I bypassed my Home Net router (DLink DI-614+) and went thru the DSL modem directly...and it worked !!

SO I went back thru my router and it doesn't work again....

The problem, in the end was that the Router's WAN setting for the MTU was at 1500.

Apparently this site's speed test, and Windows Update Site needs it to be set to MTU=1492. Don't know if other settings will also work, but 1500 did NOT.

Redirect after speed test

After upgrading to WinXP SP2, after running speed test redirect attempts and just waits interminably. Suggestions?

If you're using Zone Alarm's pop-up blocker, disable it.
If not, it could be another external pop-up or ad blocking application.

The Pop-up Blocker in Internet Explorer in the new Windows XP Service Pack 2 is turned on. If you have another Pop-up blocker running, like I did in ZoneAlarm Pro, it will cause the speed-test to not forward to the dslreports.com results page. I simply turned off the Pop-up blocker in ZoneAlarm Pro and everything worked correctly.

You can also add www.dslreports.com to the list of sites not to block in Internet Explorer's Pop-up blocker.

Thanks Guys. I'd have never guessed this one. I installed a new cable modem and tried three separate PC's today. One running only XP SP2 firewall. Speed test worked fine and produced results. One with SP2 firewall disabled and the free ZA. Worked fine also. Final PC with XP SP2 firewall disabled and ZA Pro. I could not get results back unless I turned off ZA Pro. I followed your recommendation turned off the ad blocker, added www.dslreports.com to the IE pop up blocker, and still no success. Turned off cookie control (was set to Med) in ZA Pro and now speed test returns results.
