![]() 1. Open up the Command Prompt and type in: telnet 192.168.1.254(assuming the default LAN IP has not been changed) 2. At the Cayman Prompt type in clear 3. You will be prompted to confirm yes/no 4. Type yes and hit enter 5. The Cayman will clear its configurations back to factory defaults. 6 Type restart this is useless if you just need to reset to factory defaults as the password is the very first thing that is prompted when typing clear (for good security i guess) by LBB All three procedures are discussed here in detail. The Telnet Session and Maintenance Console procedures are a little more demanding because it requires a little knowledge of the Command Line Interface. By far, the easiest way to gain initial access to your Cayman Router is to browse into the web interface. If the router has never been configured, it will, by default, have an ethernet IP address of 192.168.1.254; subnet mask 255.255.255.0. It will also act as a DHCP Server, automatically giving out IP addresses starting at 192.168.1.1. If you wish to use DHCP and want the Cayman to assign an IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS to your workstations (in Windows), select the options to "Obtain IP Address Automatically" and leave the Default Gateway section empty. To see if you can access the Cayman configuration interface, open your web browser and put http://192.168.1.254 into the URL bar. Another option to try would be http://cayman-dsl. If you pull up a Cayman menu or password prompt, you have, for the most part accomplished your goal covered in this FAQ. To move onto the Password Challenge, please refer to this FAQ. If the connection times out, read on! Each possible problem (listed below) can be overcome with determination and time. The simple and time saving solution would be to acquire a DB9 male to DB9 female serial cable and set up a connection profile in a terminal emulation program. Hyperterminal is one such emulator and it comes standard on all Windows Operating Systems and can be easily configured. The instructions to perform a full reset to factory default removing any old settings a previous owner may have configured can be found here under option 2. If you don't care for the simple route, then read on. Possible reasons for not being able to gain initial access to your Cayman Router: 1. The Cayman Default IP Address may have been changed to something other than 192.168.1.254.
Possible Solution2:
Open up the Command Prompt and type in: telnet 192.168.1.254 (or IP obtained from ipconfig command from above example) and hit enter. If you get a Prompt to Login, then the problem could be the Cayman Web (HTTP) port may have been changed. See step 2 below to correct. Another possible reason you gain access from the Telnet Session and not the Browser could be the Security Settings in your Web Browser are set too high. See step 4 to correct. If you did NOT get a Login Prompt, a possible solution would be Step 3 2. The Cayman Web (HTTP) Port may have been changed to something other than 80.
Telnet back into the Cayman From the Prompt, Type in configure and hit enter Type in set servers web-http and hit enter Type in 80 and hit enter Type in save and hit enter Type in quit and hit enter Type in restart and hit enter Once the reboot completes, you should be able to Browse into the Cayman. 3. The Cayman LAN Administration may have been disabled which will not allow any access to the Cayman from the Browser or Telnet.
Hook up a Serial Cable to the Cayman and the Serial (Com1) Port on back of your PC. Set up a connection profile in a terminal emulator program (Hyperterminal is what I use). Settings will be: 9600, 8, N, 1, none Connect to the Cayman. Once the connection is made, hit enter until you get login:
Type in configure then hit enter Type in view ip ethernet A restrictions then hit enter if it is set to"admin disabled" correct with the following Type in set ip ethernet A restrictions then hit enter you will see the following choices: {none|admin disabled|admin only} Type in none then hit enter Type in save then hit enter Type in quit then hit enter Type in restart then hit enter after the reboot, you should be able to browse back into the Cayman 4. Your current Browser Security Settings may have been set too high.
Happy Surfing!
by LBB The procedure(s) for backing up a Cayman Config file is outlined HERE by LBB To verify that it is enabled on your Cayman 3220-H, 3341, 3346, 3546 or 3547W, simply follow these steps: 1. Browse into your cayman and goto configure. 2. Go to WAN, then WAN IP Interface. 3. From the Restrictions drop down box, choose NONE. 4. Click Submit. It is highly recommended that you change your web server and telnet ports from factory default. If you do not wish to change your port numbers, go to step 10. 5. Go to Configure. 6. Choose Advanced. 7. Choose Internal Servers. 8. Change the Web and Telnet Server ports to any other port number not used by Pinholes. 9. Click submit. 10. Click the Yellow Triangle in the Upper right corner, choose save and restart. Once the router reboots, you will be able to remotely access it using any web browser or Telnet client. If you changed your web port to 8080, you would need to append this to your address like this: 1.2.3.4:8080 This ip would of course be your WAN ip. The same applies for Telnet sessions.
by davidg 3.0 How to Setup and Configure
• Set up a connection profile in a terminal emulator program ( Like Hyperterminal). Settings will be: 9600, 8, N, 1, none. • Connect to the Cayman. Once the connection is made hit enter until you get login: • Unplug the powercord and then plug it back in. • As the Cayman restarts you'll see messages similar to this: Cayman PROM Console vX.X • When you see the question "STAY IN EPROM?", hit the Y key a few times. You should come to "CaymanPROM>" or "BootPROM>". • Type "erase options" and hit enter. • You will be asked, "are you sure?". Type yes and . Make sure you spell out "y-e-s". • The options will be erased and you need to type "boot". This will restart the Cayman with the new, clean settings. After doing these steps you should be able to surf into the Cayman like normal and input your settings. Originally posted by LBB

Is there a "hard reset"?
Seems like my keybaord is not typing out anything once the connection is established....=( by LBB 1) Disable WAN administration to prevent outsiders from gaining control of your LAN: Connect to the Cayman as 'admin'. Select Configure, then WAN, then "your connection type" (in the "WAN IP Interfaces" box). Then, in the Restrictions control, select "Admin Disabled". Then, you should get a yellow warning icon in the top right of your browser window. Click it, then click the thing that comes up to save your changed settings and restart the Cayman. 2) If WAN administration is not to be disabled, change the name of the SNMP community from the default of 'Public', again to prevent outsiders from gaining control of your LAN: Connect as 'admin', select Configure, then Advanced, then SNMP (in the Services box). In 'Communities', type a name that only you will know. Just about anything, e.g., 'housebat' or some such nonsense. Click the Add button. Then, select the 'Public' entry and click the Delete button. Save the settings and restart the Cayman. 3) Enable a non-existent default server to trap any unwanted outside server requests: Connect as 'admin', select Configure, then Advanced, then Default Server (in the NAT box). Check the 'Enable Default Server' box and enter an IP address in the 'NAT Server IP Address' box. The IP should be within your DHCP range, but one that would never be assigned to an actual computer, e.g., 192.168.1.253. Click the Submit button. Save the settings and restart the Cayman.
by timcuth Most standard telephone wall jacks are wired with 2 "pairs" of wire to handle two different phone numbers. These pairs are sometimes referred to as the "inner pair" (or line1) and the "outer pair" (line2). By default, the wall jack should be wired so your primary/main phone number uses the inner pair. Your 3220-H (the "newer" one with the blue box logo on the front) is expecting the DSL signal to be present on the outer pair. It should have come with 2 phone cords, one blue and one green. Which one you use is determined by which pair in the wall jack has the DSL signal. Put another way, which line/phone number is subscribed to your DSL service. To determine which cord to use: Does your residence have more than one phone number? If NO, then use the BLUE cord. Note that it is labeled as to what end to plug into the modem. If YES, is your primary/main phone number the one "subscribed" for DSL service? If YES, use the BLUE cord as above, otherwise use the GREEN.
by ucc This isn't a very desirable solution. Because of the inbound/outbound nature of your desired app, plus the wide range of dynamic ports being used, it is difficult to make this work with any NAT-based router solution, IF you're using standard Dynamic IP addressing. SOLUTIONS - The alternatives remain temporarily putting the Cayman in bridged mode, turning off NAT and making it function similar to a modem, OR setting up dedicated Static IP to your PC from your ISP. -- Since you want to use this for a one-time only application, maybe bridged mode is the way to go (change back the configuration afterward). Was totally stuck. Tried your suggestion of using the serial number, worked like a charm. Thanks 2008-11-17 12:53:18 by LBB 1. Browse into your Cayman. 2. Goto Configure 3. GotoWAN 4. Goto WAN IP Interface 5. Click Advanced 6. Change the Max Terminates and Restart Timer to higher numbers. 7. Click submit 8. click the Yellow Triangle and choose save and restart. This changes forces to Cayman to hold a "dropped" connection a little longer before trying to login again. The problem can be due to a poor DSL signal, lost packets, or just from your provider taking too long to acknowledge a packet. Raising these settings will not cure a line problem, but they will stop the Cayman from dropping the connection so quickly. If you do have a line problem, please contact your provider to have the line checked.
by davidg To correct this, follow these steps: 1. goto »www.netopia.com/equipment/purcha···der.html 2. enter your serial number 3. Do Not Check any Boxes 4. click continue. 5. Fill out the form and download your file. 6. Next, browse back into your Cayman and go to Install. 7. Choose Install Keys. 8. After you have uploaded your keys to your router, choose save and restart. Be sure to check your other features, as this only restores your WAN Users and Security Monitoring. Feature keys such as VPN and Wireless, if you had them, must supplied from Netopia tech support in a seperate file.
