1. General informationOverviewWhether this is your first time setting up Half-Life (Mod) or Counter-Strike (Retail) depending on which version you've purchased or if you're coming here for some tips and tricks. Here are a few things that should help you with a smooth installation of Half-Life Counter Strike. If you do not find what you are looking for then please feel free to make a post in our Public Clan forum. About Counter-StrikeHalf-Life Counter-Strike is the ultimate fps multiplayer game, combining all the elements of the Half-Life with new single and multiplayer content. At the heart of this package is Counter-Strike, the number one played online action game built as a modification for Half-Life, named Game of the Year by over 50 publications worldwide! Since it's initial Beta release in Fall 1999, Counter-Strike has taken multiplayer gaming by storm to become the number one played online action game surpassing all commercial and non-commercial titles in its class! Now Counter-Strike is being offered in this incredible stand-alone package, Called the retail version. Counter-Strike is the most popular online first person shooter (fps) game that has ever existed. At any giving time of day between 80,000 - 120,000 players are playing worldwide, making it one of the most popular games ever. Counter-Strike is team-based, and casts players in the role of terrorist or counter-terrorist. Each team has access to different ammunition and equipment, and each player has unique attributes and the ability to upgrade their gear as they successfully complete each mission. A growing number of missions are available, each having specific goals, such as rescuing a hostage, eliminating key enemy structures or protecting the VIP from being executed. Weapons include the usual assortment of pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, grenades, demolition devices (C4). Each side has access to a different subset of weapons so for example only the counter-terrorist can use the M4A1, and only the terrorists can use the AK-47. Some weapons are available to both Counter-Terrorist and Terrorist. There are two ways to obtain this game. You can purchase Half-Life and then download the modification from counter-strike.net --Alternately, you can purchase a retail version of Counter Strike that has everything you need to get started. The current off the shelf Counter-Strike game is version 1.0. There is an update available at counter-strike.net that will take you to the current version. As of now I have heard of no plans to make the retail version ready to play off the shelf. That could change by March 2003 with the release of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero that would offer the updated modification. written by: KoshVorlon, SebastianWhich version of CS do I need?I guess that's a matter of preference, I will explain a little between the two versions, Mod and Retail. Counter-Strike Retail:This version already includes the counter-strike mod, you will still need to download patches and updates to bring the game up-to date. As of 10/01/02 the out of the box retail version is v1.0, currently you will need to update to v1.5 which will require a hefty patch of about 105MB's, This patch can be downloaded by clicking HereWhat are the benefits of the retail version? with the retail version you get many more mods (games) already built-in. Currently the retail version features 8 additional mods with a total of 9 (including CS). This version does not contain the original Half-Life game. Both these titles contain Counter-Strike retail:

The retail version contains the following Mods: - Counter-Strike (Obviously)
- Team Fortress
- Half-Life DeathMatch
- Ricochet
- Opposing Force CTF
- Wanted!
- FireArms
- DeathMatch Classic
- Redemption
Half-Life Counter-Strike (Mod Version)This version doesn't have as many mods (games) as the retail version, although they can be obtain separately by downloading them. This version also requires that you download two different patches opposed to the retail version which only requires one. you will need these updates to be able to play counter-strike, install them in the order they appear: Both these titles contain Half-Life Mod:

The Half-Life Mod version contains the following Mods: - Ricochet
- Team Fortress
- OZ Deathmatch
That is the difference between the two. Does that tell you which version you should purchase?, Probably not. The only real difference between the two is Half-Life CS (Retail) Doesn't have the Original Half-Life Game, So if you purchase the retail version then you're getting one less game, But it doesn't require you download Multiple patches opposed to the Half-Life (Mod) version that requires two additional patches. The Retail version cost about $5 - $10 more but it's worth it if you're a Dial-up user (You won't have to spend 4 - 6 hours Downloading the patches), and you also get many more mods included that the Mod version doesn't have. I myself use the Retail version which I am happy with. Game RequirementsThe system requirements for counter-strike was written three years ago, during that time many changes and additions to counter-strike which have made the requirements much higher. I recommend at least a pentium 2 500MHz with at least 256MB RAM and a 32MB video card. System requirements:•Pentium 133 MHz •Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, or Me •24 MB RAM •400 MB hard disc space •2x CD-ROM •SVGA, high-color (16-bit) graphics •Win-compatible soundcard •32-bit Internet service provider with 28.8+ modem or LAN Recommended Requirements:•Intel Pentium II 233 or AMD K6-2 •48MB of RAM •3D Accelerator card, Open GL or Direct3D 1.1 Getting StartedHow do I connect to the BBR server?Launch the game and click on the console button on the menu. You can also enable the console which will stop the intro from playing as well, click here to enable the console. 1.2 Server informationWhat maps are in the rotation?| [BBR]Clanspace.com #01 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | [BBR]Clanspace.com #02 |
Do you have a big mappack with all the maps?Yes, The clan has put together a mappack that features over 200 maps! The pack can be downloaded by clicking here. The pack is large (467MB) so be sure to grab some coffee while it downloads. Where can I get the maps from?Maps can be downloaded directly from our web site by clicking here. you can choose to download our rotation, hostage rescue, defusion, or assassination maps separately. If you also like, The clan has put together a mappack that features over 200 maps! The pack can be downloaded by clicking here. The pack is large (467MB) so be sure to grab some coffee while it downloads. Note: The download section is constantly being updated, new maps are added every so often, so be sure to check back frequently! 1.3 Basic CustomizingHow do I change the weapon postion?Browse to you're cstrike directory. default location for cs retail: C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\cstrike HL Mod: C:\Sierra\half-life\cstrike look for a file called config.cfg Open it with notepad, Scroll down to the end and add this line: Setinfo "lefthand" "0" Now your weapon will be on the right-hand side. This can also be done within the controls menu when you launch cs, although it's much easier and quicker editing the config file. My mouse is too sensitive, How do I change it?While in-game hit the ~ key to bring down the console, at the prompt type: sensitivity "xx" Replace the xx with you're desired sensitivity level, example: sensitivity "7.5" Default value is 3. You can also browse to your cstrike directory and locate the config.cfg file, open it with notepad and look for value: sensitivity then edit the number already in quotes. The chat messages scroll too fast!Sometimes while in a fire fight the text scrolls too fast and it doesn't give you a chance to read it. to keep the text on the screen longer type this at the console prompt or add this line to your config.cfg file located in the cstrike directory: hud_saytext_time "x" Replace the "x" with the amount of time in seconds you would like the text to remain on the screen before it scrolls off the screen, the default value is 5. I have mines set at 15, It gives me enough time to read the text when in a fire fight. The text color is too bright/dark!It's possible to change the color of the text by entering this value at the console prompt: con_color "xxx xxx xxx" Replace the "xxx xxx xxx" with the RGB color code you would like to use. For example, con_color "255 255 255" would change the console text color to pure white, while con_color "18 250 13" would make the text neon green. you must surround the numbers in quotes for this to work. The in-game text is too small to read!Sometimes playing at a really high resolution can make the text very hard to read if you are playing at 1024*768 or above. Currently, the only way to increase the font size would be to use a third party plugin to increase the size. Click here to download the file, it's very simple to install. How do I see my fps in game?In the console, type net_graph 3 and you should see your fps along with other stats in the lower right hand corner.
1.5 Advanced CustomizingHow do I make a buy bind? The easiest way to use any of these binds below would be to create a quickbuy.cfg file, To create a .cfg file do this: create a normal .txt file with notpad, open the .txt -- click file, then "Save As.." and save it as quickbuy.cfg. Now, browse to your cstrike directory and locate a .cfg file called autoexec open it with notpad and add this line: exec quickbuy.cfg. save and close. To use any of these binds below copy & paste it into the quickbuy.cfg you created, replace the letter in quotes to the key you would like to use. Save the quickbuy.cfg and move it to your cstrike directory. The quick bind is ready to use. Common Quick Buy BindsThis script below is a little more complicated how it works so I will explain a little about it, the other ones are pretty much self explanatory. This script below will buy an M4a1 or Ak47 by pressing a key, or a Aug or Sig by pressing a different key. It will also buy ammo depending on the team your on, If you have enough funds it also buys armor + helmet. Example: If you are a CT and you press "F3" it will buy an M4a1, ammo, and armor. But if you are a Terrorist it will buy an Ak47, ammo, and armor by pressing the same key as well. The same applies with the Sig and Aug, press "F4" and it will buy a Sig, ammo, and armor if you are a Terrorist. If you are a CT it will buy an Aug, ammo, and armor instead. // buy rifle + Ammo + armor // alias +SIGAUG "SIG; w2; AUG; w2; helm; arm; ammo1; mclr" alias -SIGAUG "mclr; mclr; slot10; w2; slot10; qknif" alias +M4AK "M4; w2; AK47; w2; helm; arm; ammo1; mclr" alias -M4AK "mclr; mclr; slot10; w2; slot10; qknif" bind "F3" "+M4AK" bind "F4" "+SIGAUG"
// Quick Grenade buy // alias +hegren "he" //buy grenade - $300 alias -hegren "mclr; slot10; w2; slot10" bind "F5" "+hegren"
// Quick flashbang buy // alias +flashg "flash" //buy flashbang - $200 alias -flashg "mclr; slot10; w2; slot10" bind "F6" "+flashg"
// Quick smoke grenade buy // alias +smokeg "smoke" //buy smoke grenade - $300 alias -smokeg "mclr; slot10; w2; slot10" bind "F7" "+flashg" How can I make the game look smoother ?This is a personal guide to improve the game play of Counter-Strike. I'm making this to contribute dslreports.com and for all the people who will read it. Feel free to edit all these useless comments ( like this one right here :p ).
Rates:
Rates are the most important this to consider in counter-strike. You mainly have 3 variables, cl_updaterate cl_cmdrate and rate.
cl_updaterate is the packets per second that you send to a server. The higher the value, the best. People say using rates of 50 is fine. I don't think so. Unless you have a 56k modem, put this value: cl_updaterate 101.
cl_cmdrate should be set to the AVERAGE number of FPS you obtain while you play.
rate should be set to 25000 if you have 1mbit + connection. Consider lowering the rates if you have a slow connection ( 56k~256k ).
FPS/HZ/V-sync:
First of all, make sure you are playing on Open_gl, i recommend a resolution of 800x600.
FPS is the Frames Per Second. Since counter-strike is based on a FPS system, I will spend some time on it. You can view your FPS by typing net_graph 3 on the console.
Why do I have 60 fps and I know I have a really good video card ? The answer to this question is because you probably have the V-Sync on. The V-sync basically limits your FPS to the frequency of your screen ( in hz ). Having it enabled, your FPS will be limited by that frequency. You have two choices. Either you Unable it, either you find a program that will set your hz to a superior value ( For Nvidia cards i recommend ReForce. Powerstrip for ATI cards. ).
Why are my fps 72 ?
Type fps_max 100 in the console.
If you want to tweak your graphic card in order to obtain higher FPS, use any search engine, you will find accurate results.
Thats all for the advanced customizing of counter-strike. I know that there are many variables that will affect your gaming experience, but this is a MUST.
How do I change my CD key?First open up regedit, to do this go to the start menu, click "Run", next type in "regedit" and press enter. Next go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Half-Life\Settings and double click on "Key", change the value that's in the box. After that go to file than exit. Reboot your machine and you are set.
What are some good scripts for 1.6?Scripts used for buying items and weapons quickly can really add an edge to your game. Enabling you to buy grenades, defuse kit, and armor with the hit of one button it can give you an extra few seconds on your rush. NOTE: Whenever installing or editing scripts it is recommended that you backup all your files incase of a mishap. The newest version of Counter-Strike has two buy scripts built into the game: Rebuy: A script that will automatically buy the last items you purchased the pervious round, you can also use this to restock grenades and ammo if you did not die the previous round. To use this script just simple type "rebuy" in consol (without quotes) or bind a key to rebuy (bind rebuy {mine reads bind mouse4 rebuy}). A more advance user can edit the order in which the game buys the items by opening up rebuy.txt in the folder C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\< your e-mail >\counter-strike\cstrike. The script by default buys the primary weapon first and so on, if there is not enough money for an item it skips it and goes onto the next entry. This maybe useful if you are low on money and you value body armor, over a secondary weapon.
Autobuy: Another script built into the game is Autobuy. Similar to Rebuy this script buys items and weapons with the hit of a button. Like rebuy this script relies on a list of weapons in a .txt file (Autobuy.txt). The system begins with the first alias in the list, and attempts to purchase it. If a primary weapon is successfully purchased, all later primary weapon aliases are skipped. Similarly, secondary weapon buy alias are skipped once a secondary weapon has been purchased. This script can be useful if customized but may not be useful for the experienced Counter-Strike player, who may prefer specific weapon combinations in different situations. The script can be edited in the same manner as the Rebuy script by opening the autobuy.txt file in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\< your e-mail >\counter-strike\cstrike.
A few good scripts available for download that work with 1.6 are:
AutoScript 1.6: This script offers a wide variety of options concerning many aspects of the game including, chat, buying, movement, radio commands as well as performance tweaks. The script also can use a powerful in game VGI to set up scripted buy while you are dead, make purchases based on available money, change in game settings, and many other tweaks and options. The script easily installs to your Counter-Strike directory using an EXE installer. To get a full overview of the script and instructions for installation and customization please visit here: »www.cstrike-planet.com/view.php/···oscript/
CS 1.6 Script: Another script for 1.6. Basically a watered down version of Auto Script, offers buy commands as well as a few other options. To download please use this link »www.cstrike-planet.com/files?id=23

How do I join the BBR clan?Currently the BBR clan is invite only. There are no tryouts required; ie: Probation period. We invited people to join that show their interested in joining. Skills have almost no impact on who gets picked. The most important thing to us when choosing a candidate is Attitude. Our main goal is to have fun and get along with each other. We do not discriminate against age, but we also do not babysit. Log on the server and show us what you've got. Just about every night there are several members of the clan on the servers. Log on play and make sure they know who you are and that you are interested in joining the clan. Don't pester, just make them aware. They, like you, are there to have fun and relax. We don't want to be answering questions in game while we are concentrating on winning the match/round/map. You will more than likely be directed to post in the Clan Public Forum written by: KoshVorlon, SebastianDo you have a IRC Channel?Yes, you can find most of the clan members along with regs that frequent the server on the channel. irc.gamesnet.net #bbr New to IRC? Click Here for instructions on getting started. 5.2 Follow the rulesWhy am I banned? The BBr CS Clan has adopted an official method for reporting, disputing, and reversing Bans on the BBR CS01 and CS02 servers. This applies only to Counter-Strike. My position as Public Liaison was created primarily to keep all of you informed about happenings in our community. It was also created in an effort to give everyone an equal and unbiased chance at having your server ban investigated and justified to you. I am the mediator to the CS Clan regarding your server ban. This service is open to basically to anyone who feels they need more information on their ban, or who would like to dispute or show remorse of their actions on our servers. All unban requests can be made through me. Please don't post your request in the forum, as it does little more than incite a flame war. You can make your case in PM to me via my profile page. There are a few stipulations to this, I will list them below. 1. CheatingIf you have been caught cheating by an admin on our server, then your requests will go unnoticed. It is well known in this community that cheating doesn't bode well with any admin or regular. This offense will not be forgiven unless it can be absolutely proven without a doubt to be false. 2. Time FramePlease allow some time to pass between your ban and your dispute. For example, if you were banned for repeated bad language, please wait a few days before attempting to request being unbanned. Choosing not to do so will most likely see your argument treated as less-than-sincere. 3. Changing WonIDsThis seems to be something of a large problem lately. People who have been banned on their particular WonID are obtaining new IDs and playing on the server anonymously. As of the moment of this post, it will be considered the same as a cheat, and will carry no remorse from the admins of this server. Providing a positive environment on the server is our primary goal when removing disruptive players. If it is determined that a new key has been obtained (legally OR illegally) then immediate action will be taken in the form of a permanent ban. You have circumvented the system that has been created here, and likewise insulted the person who was only doing their duty as a member of our Clan. Bearing these points in mind, you may IM me here with your questions and requests. A full listing of my contact information can be found in this thread. Our goal here is to ensure that everyone gets the same fair chance on our servers. We want everyone to have a positive experience when they play with us! Every system has it's exceptions, of course, and this is no different. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to bring them to my attention. written by yock |
