Blades can be considered any operational system and can be single or dual processor boards. The "blade" term was originally used to describe a system that ran in a cluster that booted off a central server. Several of BBR's Distributed Computing teams run blade systems build by their members. Here are some examples and threads with blade related information.

This Team Helix thread was about "blade farms" and here are some pictures of Foldy1 and Foldy2 from the Foldinator Project.
