by mballard edited by Hall When using ASMTP (Authenticated SMTP), You will make a one-time change to your email logon settings. Once done, you will be able to send email from abroad or from home, without switching settings back and forth. ASMTP also allows EarthLink members to send email while using non-EarthLink networks, such as, office network (unless that network doesn´t permit connections to outside mail servers). In short, as long as you have an EarthLink account, you will not need to connect to the internet through EarthLink in order to use the ASMTP servers. Send email from almost any location: • From abroad, using International roaming • From home, while connected to EarthLink • From the office (unless the office LAN does not permit connections to outside mail servers) • From any location, using any enternet service EarthLink members that use any of the email programs, listed below, are encouraged to change the email settings and start using ASMTP right away: Windows 95/98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP: • EarthLink TotalAccess 2003 • Microsoft Outlook 2000 • Microsoft Outlook Express 5.0-5.5 • Netscape Communicator 4.x • Netscape 6.0-6.2 Mail Mac OS 7.0.1-9.2: • Outlook Express 5.0 • Netscape Messenger 4.5-4.71 Mac OS X: If you know how to change email settings: • Outgoing or SMTP server name: "smtpauth.earthlink.net" and specify port 587 • Server requires authentication using the full EarthLink email address and password If you do not know how to change email settings, or for more detailed information, go to: Authenticated SMTP - Using EarthLink's Authenticated Mail Server to Send Mail Original version: »web.archive.org/web/2005 ··· psc.html Older versions of EarthLink´s email software do not support ASMTP. If you are missing the Guide then follow the steps outlined in the link below: Zyxel 660R-61 Router Setup for PPPoE To use a Router behind the ZyXEL you need to place it into Bridge Mode and setup your Router to handle PPPoE with your full username and password. NOTE 1: With the Zyxel P-660R-ELNK in Bridge mode, you must either have another device (a Router or your PC) to use that can be configured for PPPoE authentication. Either a Router that supports PPPoE or a PC running PPPoE Software like XP has built-in or an older version of Windows (Win2000, WinME, Win98, Win95) will have with WinPoET installed as either of those will work when properly configured. NOTE 2: To use Bridge Mode in the P-660R-ELNK you must follow the instructions exactly and use the Wizard page as directed. Then you can hook up a Router or PC to use once it is configured for PPPoE. NOTE 3: The new DSL & Home Phone (LPV) service bundle uses ADSL2+ only and you will need the Earthlink supplied ADSL2+ modem to connect unless you have your own ADSL2+ ready Modem. A standard ADSL Modem will NOT work. As of 2006/2007 the ZyXEL P660R-61/P660R-ELNK are the only two ADSL2+ Modems provided by Earthlink. None of the earlier modems from Earthlink can support ADSL2+. by Doctor Olds In order to obtain DSL Stats & Diagnostic Info from the ZyXEL P660R-ELNK it may require setting it up for PPPoE if it is not already configured in that mode and you cannot reach it at it's web interface IP of 192.168.1.1 ( »192.168.1.1 ). If you can reach the ZyXEL Web Interface right now at it's IP of 192.168.1.1 then skip down to 3 pages and their thumbnail images for what info to post. If not, then read the steps directly below (depending on your use of Bridge Mode or a secondary Router follow the correct steps). If it is in Bridge Mode the IP 192.168.1.1 will not work (not found/unable to find or similar error) until you have made a few temporary changes to your setup. If you are using a Router behind the ZyXEL P660R-ELNK then you would remove the PPPoE login info from your second Router and then set that Router to DHCP temporarily in order to regain access to the ZyXEL P660R-ELNK at it's IP of 192.168.1.1 (»192.168.1.1 ). You would then reset the ZyXEL P660R-ELNK modem so it starts up in Router Mode with it's DHCP server running so it can assign your Router or your PC a IP address using DHCP. If you were using the Windows or Linux PPPoE client instead of a second Router you would temporarily disable that from running, reset the Modem and setup the PC Ethernet Properties for TCP/IP to DHCP (Automatically Assign IP Address) instead. Then you would need to use the DOS command "ipconfig /release" (minus the quotes) then after 10 seconds the command "ipconfig /renew" (minus the quotes) so that the PC can now access the formerly bridged Modem. The DOS commands can be run in Windows by opening a DOS Command box. Click Start --- Run --- Type "cmd" (minus the quotes) --- Click OK and the DOS Command box will open ready for you to type the two ipconfig commands listed above into it one at a time. You can post screen shots (please use only .JPG or .GIF or .PNG image file formats if you chose to post images) like the three (3) images above or if you prefer you can also post just the numerical data right into your post by using copy/paste like the example below: Note: Do not post tones as they are not needed. quote:That is all there is to it so you can easily add this info into your Earthlink DSL Forum post to get further help. _________________________________________________ • How do I check modem statistics/event logs?
