6. eDonkey
A number of things. 1) Dedicated "LINK" sites - The most important difference would be the "Link" websites. These sites are the easiest way to find what you are looking for. Not only does it make searching easier but you can rest assured that 99.99% of the links on those sites will allow you to d/l the file your looking for. There are no misnamed files, no undersized files and no rips (unless specifically stated). Cant find anything you like on the main pages of a "link" site? No problem, most "link" sites have a forum where you can search for a file or request a file. 2) File Hashing - basically the donkey doesn't find a file by name. Any file being shared on the donkey is checked and "hashed". eDonkey doesn't look for files by name but rather by hash. This helps in avoiding misnamed files. 3) Chunk Sharing - The donkey allows users to share "chunks" of data. In other words a user does not need to have the whole file in order to share it. As a user d/'s a file that portion becomes shared so other users can d/l it. by WildGod8 edited by removed Follow the "How to Care for you eDonkey Guide" by WildGod8 edited by removed This happens when the donkey has found a corruption in the file somewhere during the d/l. The donkey will redownload that part of the file and replace the corrupted portion with an uncorrupted portion. Obviously this will make the file size seem bigger on the donkey interface. No need to worry, perfectly normal and actually one of the best donkey features. You will know a file is done when it says "complete" by WildGod8 edited by removed This happens occasionally. Very simple to solve. You have two choices, you can simply pause the file wait a few minutes and then resume the file which should then complete or shut down the donkey and restart it. by WildGod8 edited by removed Just paste it into to your eDonkey folder. It will replace the old server.met file. Make a backup of the old one just in case. by WildGod8 edited by removed by WildGod8 edited by removed Right click on the link itself, choose copy shortcut, paste the shortcut into your browser, now delete any %20 you see in the link you copied to the browser. Hit enter and it will be sent to your donkey. Example Before: ed2k://|file|Name%20Of%20File%20.bin|17346767|60e6a777754a1b08c165659|/ After: ed2k://|file|NameOfFile.bin|17346767|60e6a777754a1b08c165659|/ by WildGod8 edited by removed If your using one of the large server lists then just go to the site, find the add all button and click it. Always delete your old servers before adding new ones. If you want to add individual servers simply go to the server tab, right click anywhere in there, choose add server, a box will pop-up, enter the server number (remember the number) click ok. Now to connect to the server, just find it in the list, right click on it and choose connect. by WildGod8 edited by removed Try connecting to either of these two servers: 217.157.202.134 (VCDistro) 24.217.24.72 (Unofficial BBR Server) You can usually get on these two. by WildGod8 edited by removed This happens sometimes when someone is d/l from you the same file which is completing. Once complete simply shut down the donkey, find the file in the temp directory (if you cant remember which file it is, simply find the file with only one part, files not completed will have two parts in the temp directory.) Once you find the file name it to whatever you like but make sure you rename it with the correct extension. by WildGod8 edited by removed Since most files d/l from the "link" sites come in the .bin and .cue format you should become familiar with the methods of using this type of file. Here is a guide to .bin and .cue files. by WildGod8 edited by removed by WildGod8 edited by removed There are a number of ways. The best way is to use the "link sites", which can be found in the eDonkey Guide The forums at Sharereactor and Filenexus are also a valuable tool. You can search through there for anything you can think of and if you don't find it make a request. Jigle is an external search engine where you can look for a specific file. You can also use eDonkey's own internal search but more than likely you will never use this feature since the first 3 will just about get you anything you want. by WildGod8 edited by removed These commands are taken straight from eDonkey. Select the top one. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the list. Hold down the Shift key and select the last one. All servers should now be highlighted. Right click and choose "Delete" Now go here: »www.esel-paradies.de Click on "Serverliste" Click "Add All" Wait for the servers to get added. See if it will connect then. If you are on eMule And you have added addresses to your address.dat file (see below)and you have set your Preferences\Server to "Auto Update Server List at start up" and "Auto Connect at Start up" in the Preferences\Connection tab, try closing eMule and opening it back up again. Do nothing. Wait and see if it will connect on it's own. Adding addresses to the address.dat file in eMule In Windows Explorer, browse to C:\Program Files\eMule Open the file called "adresses.dat" in Notepad Here are some server met addresses you can add: www.srv1000.com/z12/server.met www.esel-paradies.de/liste83/server.met ilgatto.dyndns.org/server.met ottokar.liquidirc.net/ed2k/server.met ed2k.2x4u.de/fj4mxl/server.met www.calimero70.de/servermet/server.met Go to "File" and "save" Close Notepad.
