Plug a PC/Laptop into one of the LAN ports 1-3. Enter 192.168.1.1 in the IE address bar. You now have access to the web interface of the AP. 4. See the manual on how to change the password, and where to change the following wireless security settings (optional). After each change click apply, or they wont hold. SSSID: change from linksys so something less obvious. Enable WEP: and enter a passcode and create a key. Add any other security you want (MAC filters etc) 5. Check the manual again, and disable DHCP (click apply). Now the most important part. Change the LAN IP of the AP from 192.168.1.1 to an IP on your LAN that is not already assigned, and outside of the DHCP pool. That means if your current LAN has DHCP enabled and uses IPs 192.168.123.1 - 192.168.123.100 anything above 192.168.123.100 (upto 254) that is not already assigned can be used. Once you have chosen an IP, enter it. 6. Plug a cable from your existing LAN into the UPLINK port on the back of the AP. Power cycle it (unplug, plug it pback in). 7. Access the AP by typing the IP you just assigned it in the address bar of your browser. Use that new password to access the AP. WRITE DOWN the IP, SSSID and WEP key, and stick it to the bottom of the AP! 8. Config your wireless card with your security settings. 9. Surf wirelessly and with a little security too. Now you can access all your shared files on your LAN, printers etc.
by Rally1 Note: When reading the WEP key, make sure that you click the text box that the key is in, and press your right-arrow key to see the entire key (only the first 18 characters show up in the box - you have to scroll to see the remaining 8).
