| | Eudora from Qualcomm has some quirks that make it a little unusual, but we've managed to set this up correctly. Our screen shots were taken on a Windows 2000 Professional system running Eudora 5.1. (Note: we noticed that version 5.2 has just come out - we will note any differences here later).
Step one is to start the "New Account Wizard" process, and this is done either automatically when Eudora starts up (if no mail accounts have been defined), or can be started manually from the "Personas" tab.
The Wizard welcomes you with:
Click Next. The next dialog box lets you choose the action, and here we're going to Create a brand new email account:
Click Next, where you are prompted for your name. This is your regular name, not any kind of email address, and this will be used to construct the "From" line in your outgoing email.
Click Next, where you're prompted for your email address. This is used to help create the "From" line (along with your real name above), and this can be anything you like - it need not match the DSLR.NET email account, though it seems foolish for it to be otherwise.
Click Next, which prompts for your login name. This must be your DSLR/BBR username in lower case followed by @dslr.net. This is different from common POP3 procedures that only require your "base" username: this process requires the full email address of the mailbox you're accessing.
Click Next, where you are now prompted for the inbound mail server, which must always be mail.dslr.net. We only support POP3 mailboxes, so do not check IMAP - it won't work.
Click Next, where you're prompted for the outbound mail server. Now you have two choices: you can either use the name of our server (mail.dslr.net), or your own ISP's outgoing mail server. In this case we are showing the DSLR mail server, and it requires that the "Allow authentication" box be checked. This provides "Pop before SMTP" that allows you to send mail via our server - your ISP's mail server may or may not require this.
Click Next, and you'll be informed that you're done!
Click Finish. The next step is to actually try to check your mail, so click the "Send/Receive" button at the top of Eudora, and you will be prompted for your password: this is the same password you use to login to this site.
Important Note - the dialog box shows a bizarre prompt (user@dslr.net@mail.dslr.net), but it's actually asking for the right thing: enter your password and read your mail.
