A network drive can be connected, sometimes called 'mapped' to your networked computers to allow the user to see it as if it were another partition on their computer. The following article explains how this is done.

What this does is enable a feature commonly known as Split Tunneling. This allows normal internet traffic, such as browsing the web or listening to a music/radio stream from your favorite station, to continue to use your internet connection, rather than the connection of the VPN. A note of caution though: Some IT departments do not want you to enable split tunneling, as it can decrease the security of the VPN to a certain degree, but that subject is out of the scope of this article. Please check with your IT Department before enabling Split Tunneling in a company environment.

This FAQ entry assumes you will be using Microsoft's VPN Client built into Windows. These directions relate exactly to Windows XP.

    •Browse to Network Connections
•Right click on the VPN connection and go to Properties
    •Go to the Network Tab
•Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on Properties.
    •Click on Advanced
•Uncheck the box that says "Use Default Gateway on remote Network" (defaults to checked in XP)
