2.1 D-Link DVG-1120M ATA
•Verify the DVG's MAC address.
•Ensure that the DVG has the latest Firmware Version.
•Ensure that the DVG has a valid Call Agent (CA) IP address (followed by ":2427"). Example: a.b.c.d:2427
For security reasons, the Call Agent IP address cannot be provided here, so please search and post a request in the MyTBB Forums for example CA addresses.
•Connect the DVG ATA to a BroadBand ISP while ensuring you follow Power Up Sequencing procedures. To paraphrase, let the upstream device you are connecting the DVG to (either modem or router) be powered up and ready with an IP address, before you power-up the DVG.
As described in the above link, you will need to Connect the DVG via the WAN port to the Internet, and may need to modify WAN Settings to achieve this.
If all the above conditions are met, and Primus has correctly provisioned (setup) your TBB account, then your TBB service will be ready to use (green status light on the DVG ATA).

When you pick up a TBB connected phone, the DVG's phone light should turn green, you will hear dial tone, and can now make a call !
If you have any issues:
The V.A2 resolves some issues with a Motorola cordless phone chipset - and perhaps others.
Contact Primus TBB Technical Support if you have the V.A1 and are having problems with phones not ringing.
Note that you should test with only one phone at a time plugged into the DVG ATA. If there are multiple phones connected to the DVG, there may be other factors whereby the phones do not ring !
192.168.15.1 is the default LAN IP address of the DVG. This should not really be changed.. unless there is a specific numbering scheme for your LAN.
If you cannot login to the IP address of the DVG - either the default IP, or one that you have set, you will have to do a HARD RESET to restore the DVG ATA to its default factory settings. The reasons for this would be that someone has changed the default IP address, or this new setting has been lost or forgotten.
NOTE: the DVG ATA has *LAN DHCP* setup by default
If your computer was using DHCP and previously plugged into another router/modem, depending on your OS (Windows 98/XP.., Linux, etc), you might have do to a DHCP Release/Renew when you plug your computer into the DVG. This will refresh the IP address since it is now on the DVG's subnet. Restarting your computer will also get a new DHCP IP address.
(or the modified LAN address that you may have set in the DVG).
If you could change the DVG's WAN port MAC address to be the same as your Computer's NIC card, it would not be recognized as a valid MAC address on the Primus TBB server, and you would never get service. Furthermore, changing the MAC address on the DVG ATA is a violation of the TBB Customer Service Agreement.
A better solution would be to register the MAC address of the TBB DVG ATA's WAN port with your ISP so that it can receive a DHCP address... [typically the only reason for MAC address cloning]
•The programmed MAC address can be found on the second line of the Advanced Menu - Device Information screen.
If the programmed MAC address does not match the sticker info, you should report the discrepancy to Primus TBB Technical Support.
They will program the correct MAC address on the Primus server(s) and the DVG, but this may take a few days (3-5) before your service is activated. In some instances, Primus may determine that they need to ship you a new DVG ATA, which again can take from 3-7 days.
NOTE: MAC address issues are related to DLINK not putting the correct sticker on the DVG-1120M base (underneath), that matches the MAC value in eprom/flash within the DVG ATA.

Your DVG should contain the latest version within at most a day of being released. The version can be determined as follows:
•The second line on the Basic Configuration screen shows the Firmware Version.
Refer to FirmWare Upgrade Process if your DVG Firmware Version does not match the Latest Firmware Version identified above.

MAJOR BUG INTRODUCED: VoiceMail Message Waiting Indicator (VMWI) won't turn off!
Below is a overview of the recent firmware changes performed by Primus. Another firmware release is due within the next few weeks:
20050405 1.0M10cP [filename: 1120M-1.0M10cP-20050302.tfp]
- no SQUELCH when accessing VM through *98
- no SQUELCH (a beep instead) with Visual Call Waiting
- no SQUELCH when VWMI is activated (while on the phone)
- VMWI indicator goes off within seconds when VM is deleted through phone
- TFTP downloads should no longer stall
Changes as identified by Primus:
The latest firmware (1.0M10cP) corrects some ongoing MGCP timer issues we were having (more of a long term engineering requirements), VMWI issues, and most important TFTP download issues.
- NO DATA AVAILABLE
When Firmware is upgraded, it needs to restart the DVG which will place the DVG (and Ethernet port) OOS for 30 seconds to a minute.
•A Firmware upgrade will also Reset the DVG ATA to a default configuration. This means that any manual settings for port forwarding, ACR, or Bridge Mode will be erased.
•If the DVG is in Bridge Mode, you will also lose Internet connectivity during this time, and your settings will be reset to defaults as noted above. You will have to restore your settings by logging into the DVG through the applicable WAN or LAN IP address.
If your DVG has not upgraded to the Latest FirmWare Version within a day of the release, you should contact Primus TBB Technical Support.
Note that under certain network conditions, firmware version 0.010M-P will have some issues downloading any newer firmware.
Although you can initiate a manual Firmware upgrade, it is not recommended to do so. You need to provide the correct settings to the DVG; and also understand the implications if there is a power outage or loss of Internet connection during such an upgrade. Further details to be provided shortly.
The FirmWare Upgrade Process
When a new FirmWare Version is to be released, Primus updates a DVG configuration file on their server(s), with the latest FirmWare Version FileName - the name of the file is in the format of MAC_DLINK1120.cfg.
A DVG ATA always polls the Primus server every three hours for a new configuration file. When the DVG ATA gets this file and determines that the FirmWare Version (& Filename) has changed, it makes the necessary changes in its memory and begins to download (via TFTP) the new FirmWare File. [This information and interval can be verified by typing autocfg on the DVG cli - using telnet to your DVG ATA.]
Upon completion of a successful download, it will reboot itself to run the new FirmWare Version.
A reboot will also perform a configuration file request - which is why a Save/Restart will also initiate a FirmWare Version Upgrade.
Manually DISABLING FirmWare Upgrades
You can disable firmware upgrades through the "autocfg" command available through the CLI (Command Line Interface).
Obviously, if you do not monitor the latest available F/W version in these Forums, this may cause your TBB line to sometimes not operate correctly without the latest firmware which you will have to trigger manually.
Connect the DVG's WAN port to the appropriate BROADBAND modem, router, or hub, depending on your LAN configuration. Keep in mind the Power Up Sequencing requirements for your LAN configuration.
The correct WAN Settings (either PPPoE or *WAN DHCP*) should have been set by Primus when you ordered your TBB service, unless you asked to do it yourself. If the WAN settings are correct, the DVG ATA should now have access to the Internet.
If there was an error in configuration by Primus, or you have changed BROADBAND connections or your LAN configuration (you are travelling, changed ISP...), you may need to modify the WAN Settings.
[If the DVG ATA hangs at any point, restart your steps from the very beginning after following the necessary powerup sequence for your configuration.]
Configuring the WAN Settings
The DVG's WAN settings can be configured as follows:
•Go to either "Basic Configuration" or "Config IP -> Config WAN IP Address"
•For "Get IP From", select either PPPoE or DHCP as required.
•For PPPoE, set the ISP required data (Username, password(s), etc)
•For DHCP, set the Hostname if you want one - not required.
•For a FIXED IP (i.e. in the DMZ zone), set the fixed IP address, subnet mask (255.255.255.0), and gateway address of the router the DVG ATA is connected to.
•Set DNS information as needed.
•Press "Save" at bottom right.
•On the next screen, select "Save changes and reboot system now".
•Press "Save" in the center of the screen.
The system should now do a restart and will take a few seconds before you can login again. Note that you should now press "shift-refresh" in your browser to access the DVG ATA.
WAN access is OFF by default, but is useful for those those configurations with a DVG ATA behind a router, where the LAN (and computers) are connected to the router instead of the DVG's Ethernet port.
If the DVG is in the router's DMZ and has WAN access enabled, the default DVG ATA Password should be changed.
Enabling WAN Access
Any settings performed below will be reset to the default state after any FirmWare Upgrade.
•Telnet to the default DVG's LAN address (URL): 192.168.15.1
(or the modified LAN address that you may have set in the DVG).
• Enter the following commands:
This provides full access to the WAN port (configuration web interface and telnet connections). The WAN IP address can be determined either by your router's LAN DHCP settings, or from the DVG's Configuration Web interface.
Modifying WEB port
You may also wish to modify the web port from 80 (default) to another port number. This too will be reset to the default after any FirmWare Upgrade.
You can do this through telnet with nwdbg web port (requires a reboot) or through the default web interface:
•Login to the DVG ATA.
• Click on Advanced.
• Click on Device information, and change the Web port number to the port you want.
•The unit will not respond on the WAN port (unless you've manually changed this to Access the DVG from WAN).
•If your DVG ATA is placed behind a router/firewall, again the situation is fairly secure as above, for access from within your extended LAN.
•However, if your DVG is configured on a router's DMZ address or connected directly to the Internet, then no firewall is present, and it is recommended to change the DVG password as specified below.
Changing the DVG ATA's password
•Set the new password in the Advanced Menu - "Administration Management" screen.
If you forget this password, you will have to perform a HARD RESET to restore the DVG ATA to recover the default states and settings (including default password).
You may also want to try an Alternate Configuration that might help some users.
To set the DVG ATA in Bridge Mode, your ISP needs to provide two IPs (dynamic or static). This enables a router plugged into the ETHERNET port to have a distinct IP address from the DVG ATA.
Note that DVG Bridge mode only supports IP bridging - where a downstream device on the ETHERNET port communicates with an upstream "Gateway" device (modem/router) on the WAN port. The DVG Bridge mode does not support PPPoE bridging which would necessitate ATM bridging.
•Set the WAN Settings to get address through DHCP (or set static if you have it).
•Disable LAN DHCP.
•In Advanced settings, find Bridge mode... Enable it.
•Save and reset.
Note that since this applies only to requests initiated from the Internet, if you are FTPing from your computer, there are no ports to open since the request is initiated from within your LAN. However, if you want to FTP to your computer from an external site, you need to "forward" ports as noted below.
DVG Port Forwarding
Port forwarding allows traffic on a specific port to be passed on. This is handy if you need to access your LAN from a remote location or you want to set up an ftp server.
You should setup a FIXED LAN IP for the computer(s)/server(s) you are forwarding to from the DVG. Note that this address will be determined by the DVG'S LAN IP address which by default is 192.168.15.1 (i.e. Your computer/server can have an address of 192.168.15.2).
Alternatively, you can set a DHCP address range of "one" (1) to force a fixed DHCP address for the device connected to the Ethernet port.
After signing onto the DVG, you need to go to NAT Configuration, and then Local Server Configuration to access the screens for setting up port forwarding.
There are only 6 slots, so if you need to open up TCP and UDP simultaneously for a particular port, then you'll have even fewer left for additional ports.

I have the following port forwarding setup working:
•Dial certain calls through an active POTS LINE connected to the DVG "LINE" port rather than the TBB line - described below.
ACR used with an active POTS LINE connected to the DVG "LINE" port
All calls made through the DVG ATA are connected, by default, on the VoIP lines. ACR provides the capability for a user to specify that certain calls get routed through the (POTS) line connected to the DVG "LINE" port.
ACR provides up to 30 "indexed" entries where you can specify the calls you would like to route through the LINE port. Each "entry" contains a Number and DelDigit field:
•Number specifies the (starting) digits of any dialling sequence that you would like ACR to "listen to" and possibly reroute to the LINE port.
•DelDigit specifies the number of digits that ACR should remove from the dialling sequence before actually dialling it on the LINE port.
Quote from andreip (on the TBB Forum):
Let's say you have a Vancouver TBB Primary number, but live in Toronto and have a Bell POTS line connected to the DVG LINE port. If you call a Toronto area code, you will probably want all these calls to go through your Bell line. You would need to create an ACR entry with only "Number" coded as 416T. This would instruct the D-Link adapter to route any calls starting with 416 to be dialled on your Bell line. You could create another entry for all "905" numbers to be handled likewise with "number" set to "905T".
Note: If using the telnet command line, the ACR (described below) can be programmed much nicer and more accurately.
You might even want 911 going through your POTS line instead of your TBB line. In this case, you would code 911 into another ACR entry. You would not put a T after the 911 because there are no more digits to be dialled after 911.
The DVG's default IP address is 192.168.15.1, so any computer connected through on the Ethernet port (directly or through a LAN) should be able to access this unless the default settings were changed or a new setting was lost or forgotten. This can usually be fixed with a HARD Reset, and does not require replacement of the DVG ATA, except in the case of defective H/W.
The DLINK site provides info on how to do a HARD RESET.. which for reference is provided here:
•With the unit powered off, press and hold the Reset button with a paper clip.
•Hold the Reset button and plug the power back in with the reset button still pressed.
•Wait about 6 seconds then release the Reset button.
•The unit will reboot. Allow 20-30 seconds before reconnecting.
•The device is now at factory defaults.
After a Hard Reset, wait for at least 4-5 minutes before proceeding. This is because the DVG will attempt to update itself with the latest Firmware (if it is connected to the Internet). This can take a few minutes, and should not be interrupted by unplugging either power or ethernet cables.
Please note that the TBB Terms and Conditions refer specifically to resets of the DVG ATA:

configure the DVG ATA in BRIDGE MODE.
All devices have limits, and you cannot get more out of the DVG-1120M, than what it was designed to do. The DVG is primarily an ATA with some basic router functions, a single LAN Ethernet port (to connect a simple home network - i.e. single computer), and is limited to forwarding six ports. If it was a *true status-quo router*, the DLINK DVG-1120M would have 3-4 LAN ports, and multi-port forwarding (ranges).
If your LAN (home network) is connected to the DVG's Ethernet port, and you are running multiple applications (webserver, ftp server, filesharing - p2p apps - BitTorrent, Kazaa), then you may be stressing the technical limits of the DVG. See Schooner's quote below on how to resolve this.
Anyone who really wants to get the most out of the Broadband connection should purchase a QoS capable router, such as the Linksys WRT54G. Connect the DVG to a router port and set the router's QoS to give this port priority. Connect your LAN (computers, etc) to other ports on the router. By letting the QoS router handle the bandwidth throttling, you may be able to further increase the number of connections for your p2p applications on your computer(s); as described below.
Regardless of your LAN setup, or whether you have QoS capable devices, if you maximize bandwidth utilization of your Broadband connection, you will most likely encounter VoIP Call Quality issues.
