Maintaining Your Privacy

·Why is privacy important?
·Is my email address visible?
·Is my employer visible?
·I don't want my location to show
·Is my phone number revealed?
·Will my details ever be sold?
Anything you post online is potentially available to anyone, anywhere in the world, until the end of time (if not here, then via web search engines, or web archivers). Here, we assume your online persona should not reveal your offline identity. If you are coming here to review or give feedback to others on your experiences dealing with your ISP, you are less likely to be honest, or leave any negative information at all, if you thought your ISP could easily identify you.

broadbandreports.com allow you to keep your real name, address, email address and any other details completely private, by default. Only if you WANT to reveal your email address, or location, or your ISP, or anything else, in anything you contribute, will we do so. Even then, we take measures to stop your email address being picked up by robots that collect emails on behalf of spammers, and as far as possible, we limit access to the site by robots, archivers, and so on.

Your email address is visible to other registered users, unless you check the option 'never show my email address' in your account preferences.

Checking this option is recommended, as your email address may be your work email, or reveal your ISP or other information you do not wish others to know. On the other hand, other members can more easily reach you if your email address is visible. The site protects "spam farmers" from extracting your email address from your membership information pages so you will not get spam either way.

Your employer, or posting IP, is not visible unless you post anonymously, in which case your domain name is shown.

Posting using an account reveals less about your ISP or other details than if you post anonymously on the forums without an account.

If you review your ISP, they are not able to determine which subscriber made the review unless your review text includes words that identify you. We do not reveal to ISPs the IP address or email of any reviewer.

We encourage you to enter your ZIP code in order that members may easily find other members who live near them.. when reviewing an ISP, the location of the reviewer is very important.

Nevertheless, if you do not wish your ZIP code or town and state to appear in forum posts or anywhere else, just do not enter a zip code when editing your account details, or enter something else, like "World" or whatever.

If you do a prequalification, we run your address and phone number through a few company DSL availability systems. However, we do not reveal or store this phone number, and the availability systems do not pass on the prequalification address to marketing groups. Your phone number should always remain private unless you reveal in your own postings your full name and/or address.
