In addition to the home of the Florida Grapefruit League, spring training for the major league teams, baseball all summer long can be enjoyed, provided by the Florida State League. The Florida State League is "high" Single A baseball. It can also be referred as the first real stepping stone on the path to the "bigs".
These players do not may millions of dollars a year, though some may have received millions as a signing bonus. These guys play 140 games throughout the season and play some damn good ball.
In the past few years I have watched Jose Reyes, David Wright, Aaron Heilman, now with the Mets in New York as well as several others, Justin Huber, who is now with Kansas City, Scott Strickland, now with the Huston Astros get their starts here in Port St Lucie. If you are going to be around Port St Lucie, let me know as I generally have spare tickets to the games.
