7. Connection and TweakingNote: Customers using PPPoE may experience higher trace routes and ping values than DHCP, Static, or PPPoA customers. Updated on 03/25/08. Please note, that while Embarq considers 300 MS latency as acceptable, there are others who would argue that this high of a level of latency is not acceptable for them.
This really needs some further explanation. 400mS (almost 1/2 second!) within a single network (SprintLink) is absolutely terrible, and indicates that the network is either severely overloaded or in need of upgrading. This FAQ item could be referring to the rather notorious section of Embarq's network in Mansfield Ohio that has been overloaded and underperforming during peak hours for the past two years. A more interesting FAQ item would be one which details what Embarq is doing (or plans to do) to correct the engineering problems they have had in Mansfield. by Dezbend •FL-FTMY/NPLS – 71.3.0.116 – 76.2.127.122 •Indiana - 205.244.194.36 - 71.0.1.211 •Kansas - 76.7.255.188 - 65.164.201.148 •Minnesota - 65.41.112.28 - 71.0.1.211 •Missouri - 65.164.201.148 - 76.7.255.188 •Nebraska - 65.164.201.148 - 65.41.112.28 •Nevada - 65.41.120.51 - 208.13.143.36 •New Jersey - 207.14.188.36 - 63.162.197.99 •North Carolina - 63.162.197.99 - 63.162.197.69 •Ohio - 71.0.1.211 - 205.244.194.36 •Oregon - 138.210.82.250 - 65.40.220.21 •Pennsylvania - 205.244.194.36 - 71.0.1.211 •South Carolina - 63.162.197.69 - 63.162.197.99 •Tennessee - 76.5.159.133 - 63.162.197.69 •Texas - 65.40.202.102 - 76.7.255.188 •Virginia - 208.33.159.39 - 63.162.197.99 •Washington - 65.40.220.21 - 138.210.82.250 •Wyoming - 65.164.201.148 - 65.41.112.28 Updated on 03/25/08.
Why are so many DNS servers repeated, and in states that aren't even neighboring?
Such as my DNS in NJ is the same as VA:
New Jersey - 207.14.188.36 - 208.33.159.39 - 63.162.197.99
Virginia - 208.33.159.39 - 207.14.188.36 - 63.162.197.99
As well as other states:
207.14.188.36 (NJ, VA, TN)
208.33.159.39 (NJ, NC, SC, TN, VA)
63.162.197.99 (NJ, NC, SC, VA)
What's the point of listing them by state (if you don't mind me asking).
If I do a tracert to the NJ servers, 2 are ending in other states:
4 26 ms 26 ms 26 ms dsldns-nj.embarqhsd.net [207.14.188.36]
11 36 ms 36 ms 35 ms dsldns-va.embarqhsd.net [208.33.159.39]
8 58 ms 39 ms 39 ms dsldns-nc-2.embarqhsd.net [63.162.197.99]
If anyone can clarify, I'd appreciate it!
cuz NJ isn't any bigger than a county in Texas. 2011-07-19 19:18:18 A new DNS address from Embarq for Texas is - 65.164.201.148 . That was provided by an Embarq Tech. last week. 2008-05-16 17:16:11 Isn't it kind of mean to say that mean people suk? Just wondering. 2011-09-13 14:00:27 by sashwa | ||||||||
