21. Link for Adobe Flash Player

After you execute Flash installation files (AX, Plugin, etc) you may want to make Flash secure. It's easy to do, but you have to repeat procedure every time after you install a new version of the Flash. It's because setup may want to change your settings back (e.g. setup always elevates integrity privileges for the Flash, which is highly insecure, BTW).

1. Open registry and remove this key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Low Rights\ElevationPolicy\{FAF199D2-BFA7-4394-A4DE-044A08E59B32}]

]]>
2. Open Global Privacy Settings panel and remove / deny / uncheck all insecure settings from all tabs there, one by one.

2. Remove flash share objects files. Open this folder (enter the string below into Windows Explorer address bar):
%APPDATA%\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects
There you should find one subfolder (e.g. 8V53PJHP) that is unique to your computer. Remove all files from that folder, but keep the folder itself.

3. Open this folder (the same way as the folder above):
%APPDATA%\Macromedia\Flash Player\macromedia.com\support\flashplayer\sys
Remove all folders/files inside, except only one file - settings.sol

4. Open Properties | Security for that folder and set Deny to Write for your account.

Now you may use Flash at any site you want, and it will not collect your browsing history anymore...

For those who don't want to clean up Adobe Flash installation manually and prefer to use a BAT file - here is one, that you may run after you made installation of Flash v11.x (both ActiveX and Plugin versions):

Versions will be updated as time permits

BAT file removes Adobe Flash Update service, removes elevated privileges from Flash ActiveX, allowing it to access to your registry from web sites, removes old Flash storage objects and sets new and restrictive permissions to the Flash main configuration file and its folder, making it harder to change. BTW, if you want to change Flash security settings later on - run BAT file again and do it from there.

BAT file will work with WXP and W7 (don't forget to use elevated privileges to run it there). It uses 'cacls' tool, that should come with most OS's. If you don't have one - just comment the lines in BAT file, that use it...

As usual with Windows OS, there is no any guarantee it will work. Use it at your discretion and risk

The least convoluted/most stable, reliable & top rated link to find Flash Player is here:

»www.adobe.com/products/f ··· on3.html
