*2011 Member Choice Poll for Preferred Media Players* focused on application software players for computers, as described below by Wikipedia:
"Media player is a term typically used to describe computer software for playing back multimedia files. Most software media players support an array of media formats, including both audio and video files
Some media players focus only on audio or video and are known as audio players and video players respectively. The producers of these players usually focus on providing a better user experience as they are specifically tailored toward the media type".
The clear winner in our poll was VLC Media Player with close to 90 votes, followed by Media Player Classic with nearly 70 votes.
Both players have been popular choices in years past among our members, but it appears VLC Media Player has become the new king of the hill.
Various versions of Windows Media Player (usually the latest versions available at the time of our polls), have generally taken the top spot in the past, and are still quite popular.
Filling in the third and fourth spots as far as popularity were Windows Media Player 12 and Winamp (with approximately 45 votes each).
Quite a few of the other choices included in the original poll also received votes, and it was clear after reading comments from our members, that many use more than one Media Player.
In addition to the top four choices mentioned above, the other choices that were available in the poll are listed below for your reference, in their approximate order of popularity. (Beginning with the most popular, down to those receiving the fewest number of votes)
Note also that the last 5 entries in this list didn't receive any votes.
If you would like to see how the number of votes were specifically distributed on our bar chart, you may refer once again back to the link of the original poll at the top of this page.
