How can I delete a device from my UD homepage?
What is the cs.ud file?
The cs.ud file is the file that the Agent uses to identify your device uniquely. It's job is to tell the Server what device is returning a result, log in to the Server using your details and retrieve a new work unit.
The cs.ud file has the added advantage of being transferable to a new machine.

Why recycle my cs.ud file?
Because then you can keep your Device Config page neat.
There will be no dead devices listed. If you re-use your cs.ud file, you can rename the device from the Device Config page.
It also gives a more realistic view into how many machines are actually running on the UD Distributed Network. (It is currently claimed that there are approximately 900,000 devices installed, but a large number of them will be dead devices - no longer exist).
This is particularly useful for users who have many devices installed, a messy Device Config page can be frustrating.
It is also extrememly useful for UD Monitor users, see the UD Monitor thread for more details.

Are there any problems?
    There are always problems.
Your cs.ud file may become corrupt, in which case you would have to reinstall the Agent and give it a new Device ID. The same applies if your hard drive becomes corrupt or there is a virus on your machine. Are the UD Server virus protected? Fortunately, yes. But there is no reason why you shouldn't install Anti-Virus software as well.
I recommend making a copy of your cs.ud files for each device as you install them, and name them so you don't get confused, e.g. Device1.cs.ud or Home.cs.ud. You may want to create a new copy of the cs.ud files when there has been a software update, as the cs.ud file can be updated also, the same information is stored within the file. If you re-use and older cs.ud file, the Server should update automatically if need be.

How do I recycle my cs.ud file?
It is actually a very simple process.
Re-configure or rename the device if you want to from the Device Config page.
Take the cs.ud file from the old machine or from the backup area.
Install the Agent on the new machine (fresh install).
Cancel the signup process window: At this point your device does not have an ID.
Copy the old cs.ud file into the freshly installed Agent's directory.
    Run the Agent.
You will notice that you are not prompted to sign up, and that the Agent will have the name that your old machine had. If you have renamed or reconfigured the device from the Config page, the Agent will show this once it has finished communicating with the Server. It will then get on with what it does best
Thanks to quarkbomb of the UD Member-to-Member forum for this.

If you are transferring the work to a PC that does NOT already have UD installed:
    • First, copy the entire UD directory from the old PC to the new PC.

    • Download the UD installation program and start the installation process on the new PC. Be sure the installation directory points to the same one you copied the UD data to.

This is important: CANCEL the installation process at the point where it asks you to create a new account or log into your old one.
Now you can start up UD and run it like normal. It will submit the old results and download new work.

If you are transferring a work in progress to a pc that already has UD installed.
    • First you need to setup UD Monitor. Right click and choose to create a New Slot. This will give the following tree to your UD folder: \United Devices\UDm Cache\2

    • Open the UD directory on the computer from which you wish to transfer a wu from and move the contents of that folder to the newly created 2 folder within the UDm Cache folder.

    • Use UD Monitor to switch to the second wu.

The key file in the United Devices folder that identifies your "device", is the cs.ud file.

If you frequently re-image your computers, you can save the United Devices folder to a CD along with the UD Agent setup file that you downloaded from either UD or Intel.

When you re-image your hard drive, copy both the setup file and the United Devices folder to your desktop.

Run the setup file.

When the Registration window pops up, exit the UD Agent.

Copy the old United Devices folder over the "new" United Devices folder, replacing all files.

Start the UD Agent from the Start menu. The UD Agent will continue to process the work unit it had from before.

While online, use CTRL+ALT+Delete to bring up the Task Manager/Close Program window. Highlight the "other" UD program and press the End Task button. At the moment the file is either ud_901602.exe or ud_901604.exe. When you do that, the UD Agent discards the work unit and goes to the UD server to get a new THINK Task and new work unit. The process will also update your cs.ud file and your Member Information Section of your UD Agent.

Users option - you can rename your new device at this point or go into your device profile at a later time and rename the old device by adding something different, such as "Discontinued" at the end of the old device name.

You should also go to your device profile for the new device and pick a connection type.

Instructions for accessing your device profile are as follows:

1. How do I get to my "Device Manager" at grid.org to view or edit my Devices or Profile?

To get to Device Manager go to grid.org and click on the member services tab. Then enter your UD Member Name and Password. This is not the Member name and Password for the forums, but the Member name and Password that you used to register for the United Devices client.

Click for full size

This is where you can view or edit your Devices, Profiles, and view your stats for each device. (Note: This screen shows only Device Names installed/registered in the last 7 days or with results returned in the last 14 days). To view all Devices click on the down arrow and click on “anytime – all devices. To change the Device name simply click on the Device Name you wish to edit. In this instance to change the Device Name “Upstairs001” to “Upstairs111”, we would click on Upstairs001 and see this screen. Then in the Device Name field change it to “Upstairs111” and click “save”

This would now be the new Device Name

The client will download the new version and update itself automatically. Any fixes or patches are also downloaded this way. This download will take place as you get the next work unit from the UD server.

If you can't uninstall, you probably need to reinstall, then run the uninstall again.

Go here - »/ftplist?dir=disco

Click "Ftp Enable" on the top left of that page.

Click Back.

Now click the link for ud_agent_setup.exe.

Enter your DSLReports password.

Download....

Close UD.

Run the program you downloaded, install it over the current version.

Close UD again.

Go To Control Panel - Add Remove Programs and at the bottom is United Devices..

Also go to C:/Program Files & delete the UD folder
