It seems that when you select projects in your profile, it does not save under your UD device profile, but only under your BOINC profile.
So, UD users, if you want to select which projects to run, login to WCG, then select "Device Manager".
Next, select the profile that is associated with the Agent you want to change. For example, I will click "Default" in the image above.
Now select your projects.
Submit and you're off!
If you want to kill your current task, open your task manager and kill the ud_43243214.exe program (the numbers vary). This will cause the agent to download a new task.
By default, the WCG Windows Grid Agent is set to run at 60% of the CPU capability. You can adjust this by downloading the CPU throttle adjustment tool. The tool can be downloaded from the WCG site: »www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/···uuse#230
Look at the third paragraph "The tool can be downloaded from here." After the file is downloaded, install it and you will see a dialog box "World Community Grid CPU Throttle Control." Click on the User Defined "button" adjust the slider, and click on "OK."
Once the tool is installed, you can adjust the CPU throttle up or down at any time.
Hint: it is nice to have a flash drive to store the Windows Grid Agent and the CPU throttle adjustment tool programs so you can quickly install them on each of your machines.
The reasoning is found here there was a conscious decision made by World Community Grid to throttle back the agent for novice users, for older and lower end computers, or for computers that were having heat issues running full out. This set point is 60%.
Thanks grobinette for additional info.
Note: Some really older machines could have issues...YMMV
Since the UD agent does not natively run correctly on Vista, a little wrangling needs to be done to get it to run correctly.
Install the agent to a location outside of the default C:\Program Files\ directory like c:\World Community Grid\. I have been installing to the Public directory built into Vista C:\Users\Public\World Community Grid\ .
After running the installer, navigate to the directory you just installed the program to. Right click on UD.EXE and select properties. In the properties screen, select the Compatibility tab. Put a check mark next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and click apply.
Reboot Your computer and login. Allow the agent in Windows Defender if you are prompted for that. The UD agent should now be running.
Occasionally the startup shortcut does not get made. If it has not for you, navigate back to the install directory again and right click on UD.EXE and select Create Shortcut. Now copy the shortcut to
When you first install the Windows Grid Agent and register a particular computer, the agent starts to download a new Work Unit, but then stops and displays the message "Agent Paused." Possible reasons may be the operating system you are running, the configuration of the computer, or other software that is installed.
Options are:
• See system requirements for the project running & try again
Double check the name that is on your UD installation (it is in the top right of the UD program). This should match what you are logging in with. Also, make sure you have selected "Anytime" in the "Installed Devices" dropdown on this page - »www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/de···Result=0 (this link has it already selected for you)
When you opened UD for the first time you hopefully logged in as an existing user. If not, problems may arise.
You can first try closing UD, deleting the CS.UD file (found in the C:\Program Files\WorldCommunityGrid directory most likely) and then restarting UD (this will ask for your login info again) and if all else fails:
Uninstall, manually delete the installation folders, and reinstall
If a unit is stuck and refuses to complete then you can force the UD agent to download another Unit. There are a couple of ways this can be done. • The easiest is to bring up the Task Manager (by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Delete), finding UD_#######.exe and then select End Task. (replace those ####'s with random numbers, for example, UD_43214324.exe)
*Please Note: Make sure to not highlight ud.exe.
Also if you have not been running UD for "X" amount of time and you are bringing a box back on line, it would be a good idea to flush the current work unit and replace it
• Or, you can find all the tk*.ud files in the United Devices directory and delete all of them.
