2.0 Folding@Home General
by Gizmo by MstrBlstr0 by sortofageek Although funding has ended the Genome @ Home project, at least for now, Stanford does have use for all the slower CPUs which cannot meet the regular F@H work unit preferred deadlines. The client can be configured with the F@H team number for the team of choice and, in advanced configuration, by choosing to request work units without deadlines. This will alert the assignment servers to redirect the client to be served WUs without deadlines (timeless WUS,) allowing all our slower CPUs to contribute to the science! Just install the latest client per instructions. Be sure to say "yes" when asked if you want to configure advanced options. For this option, Request work units without deadlines (no-ref/no/yes:, choose yes as your preference. Remember! Team Helix is Team 4!
by sortofageek As with many things, how your particular hardware and software configuration will react, may vary. Some users report no problems using Proxomitron while others report problems. Should you experience any problems, try this solution. When you download a work unit, you should momentarily shut down your proxy server. For Proxomitron users this is as simple as going into Tools\Internet Options\Connections\LAN Settings and unchecking 'Use a proxy server for your LAN'. When the unit has downloaded, you can recheck the box. Remember to do the same when the WU is ready to be uploaded!
by Rockster by Gizmo If you run a firewall, you may need to make changes to your software configuration to permit the access required by the client. by Gizmo
by Gizmo by Gizmo The only time it could become an issue is in a computer that in not cooled properly. The program does keep the CPU busy, which generates heat. This should not be a problem as long as the CPU has the proper cooler and the case is properly ventilated. There is a good bench mark test done by The Tech Report on the impact of the Folding client. by wafen Alzheimer's Disease (AD) Huntington's Disease (HD) Cancer & p53 Osteogenesis Imperfecta Parkinson's Disease (PD) Ribosome study & antibiotics A more detailed description of what is being studied can be found here on Stanford's site. by wafen A post made by bruce, an admin on our community folding forum, is well thought out and could be helpful to new members of all teams.
