4.0 FiOS TV
FIOS TV channels are all digital. Your channels are sent using Passive Optical Networking (BPON/GPON) to your home, which results in no degradation of the signal. Unlike satellite, FiOS does not blackout during heavy weather.
by NOCMan edited by Branch FiOS TV connects from the video coax connector on your ONT. If you have existing cable service, the FiOS installer will run coax from the ONT to your existing splitter. They will remove your existing cable connection from that splitter and will replace the splitter to ensure it's up to Verizon standards. They will also run coax from the splitter to the Actiontec/FiOS Quantum Gateway/FiOS Home Router to provide VOD and Guide data for your STBs. If you do not already existing Coax cable runs, or the existing runs are not of sufficient quality, Verizon can run new coax cable to your TV outlets (for an additional fee). by NOCMan edited by Branch Some channels are transmitted entirely from the content provider with a "Copy Protection" bit enabled, which prevents in some cases the transferring of recordings to your computer. FiOS only passes along this copy protection bit, they do not arbitrarily set it. Also, some channels that aren't 100% copy protected do sometimes turn on copy protection for certain programs. Whether or not you can transfer content to your computer with this bit set depends on the device and how it is connected.
The following channels are 100% copy protected:
by More Fiber edited by Branch A Video Hub Office (VHO) is the regional location where all of your TV signals come from. Verizon STB updates are pushed out by VHO, however other things (such as router updates) are done solely by location, not VHO. In other words, the only time knowing your VHO is useful is when you're reporting TV signal issues, or when a STB update is being pushed out. Everything else doesn't have anything to do with your VHO.
There are two Super Head Ends (SHEs) in the US - they feed all of the VHOs. Your regional VHO then serves the local Video Serving Office (VSO) that is in your neighborhood. From there, it goes to your home.
Note that VHO Location is the physical location of the VHO, and VHO Area is the area served by the VHO. In some cases (VHOs 6, 9, & 15), there are multiple VHOs that operate under the same VHO number. For all end-user intents and purposes, they can be considered the same VHO. Current VHOs:
