The new plans (as of 2014) include metered usage only, there is no longer a *new* unlimited plan with Virgin Mobile broadband2go. All of the metered plans offer access to Sprints 3G(EVDO), 4G(LTE) and 4G(Wimax) networks. Network access is dependent on the device (for example not all devices support LTE).
$5 plan - gives you 250MB of internet access for 1 day (24 hours)... this plan shuts off either at 250MB of usage or 24 hours after plan start date. FAQ plan code: $5/250meg-3G+4G
$25 plan - gives you 1.5GB of internet access for 30 days, this plan shuts off either at 1.5GB of usage or 30 days after plan start date. FAQ plan code: $25/1/5gig-3G+4G.
$55 plan - give yous 6GB of internet access for 30 days... this plan shuts off either at 6GB of usage or 30 days after plan start date. FAQ plan code: $55/6gig-3G+4G.
If you purchased your Virgin Mobile device at Wal-Mart you will also have access to:
$120 plan - gives you 6GB of internet access for 6 months (180 days)... this plan shuts off at either 6GB of usage or after 180 days after plan start date. FAQ plan code: $120/6gig-180day-3G+4G

$50 plan - gives you unlimited access 3G(EVDO)/ 30 days... this plan throttles connection speed down to 256k/256k or lower once you reach 2.5 GB of usage. The next active plan will reset to full speed for the first 2.5GB of usage. FAQ plan code: $50/2.5gig-then-throttle-grandfathered
$40 plan - gives you unlimited access 3G(EVDO) / 30 days... this plan throttles connection speed down to 256k/256k or lower once you reach 5.0 GB of usage. The next active plan will reset to full speed for the first 5 GB of usage. FAQ plan code: $40/5gig-then-throttle-grandfathered
Note that the $10/100m, $20/500m, $50/2.5g plans are grandfathered on accounts that had the plan active prior to July 4, 2012 they act like the $40/5-gig plan below now.
The grandfathered plans are no longer available to new customers. Only customers who had the grandfathered plans have access to them. This plan will also only remain available if you never switch away from the plan and never let you account expire.
For example: If you have access to the $40/5gig-then-throttle plan, and you switch one month to the $25/1.5gig-3G+4G plan... you would loose access to the $40/5gig-then-throttle plan forever on that account.
Currently you do not need to have an active plan to retain it, however, accounts expire after 12 months so you would need to purchase the plan at least once a year to retain it. Virgin Mobile also added the verbiage "or until discontinued" to the TOS so they can technically cancel grandfathered plans at their discretion.
Grandfathered plans are tied to accounts, not devices... you could upgrade the device on your account to a newer one, however, virgin mobile restricts plan features on some devices/plans. For example if you have an account with with unlimited 3G, and you switch from a Mifi to a Netgear Mingle, you will still have unlimited 3G, but no 4G(LTE) access.
The Virgin Mobile (VM) Broadband2Go (bb2g) service accepts normal Virgin Mobile Top up cards, Virgin Mobile bb2g Top up cards, and credit cards.
Top up cards can be any denomination, as you can add them separately to your account to total up to the amount needed for the plan you are wanting to activate.
When using the phone service branded Top up cards (older cards) the dollar amount under the giant minutes listed is the value that is applied.
For example if you wanted to activate a $55 6GB plan, you could add a $25 VM Top up and a $30 VM Top up card to the account and then activate the $55 6GB plan.
Top up cards are added using the top up menu on the virgin mobile account webpage. Any top up cards redeemed are then added to the Available Cash Balance for that account.
Credit card's can be added to the account as a payment method as well.
Currently when you activate a plan, you will select either an "Auto Renewal plan", or a "1 Month Only" plan. If you select the Auto Renewal plan then after 30 days it would either charge your card or remove the plan price from the available cash balance. If you don't have either an available cash balance , or a valid credit card, the plan will be canceled, you can then select whichever plan you want to re-start internet access.
Once you are on an active plan that plan will vanish from the list of available plans and will be replaced with "Restart Your Current Plan", if you select that plan ANY UNUSED DATA WILL BE LOST. The reason this selection exists is to buy more data if you used all allotted data.
For example if you activated your plan on Jan 1, and used all 6GB of data by Jan 10, you could re-enable your internet service by selecting "Restart Your Current Plan". You would then have 6GB more (or whatever plan you are re-starting) data for 30 more days.
