4. Server Information

Mail Server

Server: mail.wavecable.com
This applies to both POP3 and SMTP. Username is the same one that you received with your service.

News Server

Wave Broadband has decided to get news service through NewsFeeds.com

The Server info (taken from Here:

* Uncensored primary server: corp.newsfeeds.com
* Uncensored secondary server: corp-news.newsfeeds.com (supports anonymous posting!)
* Uncensored extended-retention server:corp-goliath.newsfeeds.com
* Uncensored binaries only server: corp-binaries.newsfeeds.com

The retention seems to be about a week for the binaries.

Also, Wave allows two connections to news.wavecable.com. The retention is poor and the speed clocks in at around 32kB/s.

Astound (Wave Broadband) in California Newsgroup address differs:

news.astound.net

Note: No login or userid. Authentication is by IP address, if you are on an astound cable, you're in.

Quite large selection of newsgroups. Overall message retention is weeks if not months. Similar for binaries.

Thank you jlconrod for this information!

What are the server hostnames or IPs?

Mail Incoming (POP3): mail.wavecable.com
Mail Outgoing (SMTP): mail.wavecable.com
WebMail: »mail.wavecable.com

Western WA DNS Servers:
DNS: 24.113.32.29
DNS: 24.113.32.30

Possible additional DNS from chpalmer See Profile
24.113.120.2

Personal Webspace

Server: »ftp://home.wavecable.com
Username: same as e-mail (without the @wavecable.com)
Password: same as e-mail

As it stands, you need to call in to Wave (see the contact information for the phone number) to have them activate it. Details on whether or not all e-mail accounts get this or not have not surfaced (which means let me know if you know!)

5. General Information

What are acceptable signal levels for the Port Orchard area?

Looking at your modem at »192.168.100.1 (address may vary depending on modem, the following works with an Motorola SB4100):

Signal to Noise Ratio: 31 to 36 dB
Upstream Power Level: 37 to 49 dBmV
Downstream Power Level: +10 to -14 dBmV
FAQ Editor's note: Techs have allowed signals of +15 to -15 dBmv at my house and others in the area. This may very well be outside of specifications, but I had no problems

If your modem shows values outside of these ranges, contact Wave to have someone come out to fix the problem.
