Setting Virtual Hosts

I'm not sure if this is exactly the right terminology, but is there a way to configure my 2wire router to redirect outgoing requests to an internal IP?
I run a server that uses name-based virtual hosting, so the only way to access the websites is by first setting the hosts (i.e. /etc/hosts) configuration file on each computer.

I know for instance that the router redirects requests for the name of a computer to the computer's IP address. In my case, requests for "jeremy-http-production" from any computer inside the local network resolve to 192.168.1.13.

So in conclusion, is there a possible way of setting up the router so that all outgoing requests for http://example.net/ resolve to a certain internal IP address?

This must be something that's done fairly often for instance in a public wi-fi hotspot environment where all requests must be redireced to a payment gateway for example...

2701HG-D POST lots of lights

Is this just dead, or is it possible a better power supply might help?

On power up, these lights are on continuously and do not turn off:

Power Red
Ethernet 1-4 Green
Wireless Green

On the back the 4 ethernet port lights are green.

Looked through a bunch of posts but didn't see any that matched mine. Thanks.

2Wire i38HG as a DSL Modem/Router?

I have a 2 Wire i38HG which looks just like the 2701HG, but of course is not. I can't find out much about this piece of equipment. I did see the pdf file on the 2 Wire site showing it used with an "outside/inside" telephone interface. My unit is marked with the at&t logo with a S/N 450712000377. I haven't been able to access the setup screens via the normal 2701 access. In fact my computer cannot contact the unit via TCP/IP obtain IP address automatically. I can change TCP/IP to 192.168.1.254/255.255.255.0 and my computer LAN connections reports 100 Mbps. But with this there is no communication with the i38HG.

I am very much a novice and readily admit I don't know what I am doing and this unit may well not work as a modem/router.

Any comment will be appreciated.

? 2-Wire 2701HG-B as modem only to Allow Wireles N Upgrade

I found this older post (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r21411037-How-to-set-2Wire-as-just-a-modem-and-use-a-separate-router), which is exactly the info I needed....the ? I had though is if the ethernet ports on the 2-wire are 10/100 ethernet ports, am I throttling down my DSL connection speed with the new DIR-655 D-Link router and the wireless network itself? do I need 10/100/1000 ports? I have AT&T 3.0 mbps d/l .... 512 Kbps u/l service.

Is there any updated info on 2-wire settings needed for upgrading the router to wireless N?

Problem with my network and IP Address...

Hi all,

I'm having a problem where, for some reason, one of the computers on my wireless network is using a totally different IP Address than every other computer on the network and, therefore, I can't network properly - such as being unable to use network printers and stuff. I've tried releasing and renewing the IP Address and anything else I could think of, and it hasn't fixed the problem. Everything was working fine, and as far as I know, all that happened was I restarted my computer and then this began happening.

I'm using a 2wire modem/router, obviously, and I've checked everywhere in the router's settings to change/fix this and I can't find anything. In the Advanced Settings of the Home Network tab, I'm using the default range for IP addresses (192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0) and the IP addresses of all the other computers on my network fall into that range. But this computer's IP address, for some reason, is in the 75.1.xx.xxx range.

What else should I try? How can I fix this?

Thanks in advance for all your help,
Cameron

2Wire Modem Issues - Solid Red Lights

Hello everyone :)

My modem has recently started to play up. On warm days it seems to cut out quite a bit. It is only about 6 months old. What was happening at first was it was continuously restarting itself. The lights would slowly go green and then all of a sudden they would all switch off except for the power light which would start to flash green before loading all of the other lights again.

Just yesterday it seemed to get worse. The lights on the modem went red after a couple minutes of resetting the modem. I tried resetting it multiple times but it was doing the same thing over and over. The lights stayed solid red until I'd reset it again :(

Could anyone help me out here? I'm thinking the modem is faulty but like I said earlier it was working fine up until just recently. Should I replace it or is there a way this can be resolved?

Thanks :)

2701hg-b bridged, but linksys router can't access internet?

I use two different dsl services: verizon at home and ATT at work. I can bridge the verizon westell modem to a wrt54gl linksys router and everything works just fine, but when I try to do the same with the AT&T 2wire 2701hg-b and the wrt54gl linksys router, I can't get online.

I followed the instruction to bridge to the 2701hg here:
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15835

Afterward, I connect a cat5 cable to the ethernet port on the back of the 2701hg, and the other end of the cat5, I connect to the "internet port" behind the linksys router. I can log into the router just fine and set up pppoe authentication, but it never connects. No WAN IP shows up on the top right of the router web interface. Even if I change the router's ip to something like 192.168.10.1, I still can't get online.

What am I doing wrong? I thought it might have something to do with some xp services I disabled, so I enabled those, but still can't get online.

My setup:

XP SP3
Comodo Firewall (enable or disable has no effect on this problem)
