Hybrid PRLs

hi, I have an alltel card with a verizon contract now so I am not sure where to post. (hope this is ok) Yesterday, after months of great speeds and Ra, I am now stuck in a 1x and speeds just a bit better than dial up. After speaking with a verizon tech (nothing has change to my computer or in my area) he said I am in a hybrid prl area. (I live between Grand Rapids and Kzoo MI) He suggested a new aircard - the verizon USB760 - for a price of course. Well I'd really like to keep my contract of unlimited and get my speeds back with this aircard - UM175. Current PRL is 40057. I know about the corolada page with PRLs but i don't see any listed as hybrid. Any ideas on where I can find those? He didn't want to push me a new one, just kept saying I probably needed a new card. I am going to tinker with some of the PRLs I downloaded but I would like to know more about the hybrid ones, what they are, and where to find them for download. Thank you for any help.

[EvDO] Alltel Huawei Cell Modem Card

I have an issue with an Alltel Huawei (EC228) usb modem card. It works fine to connect to the alltel network. I don't notice any network issues. However, when it actually makes a connection it completely slows down the computer. When opening and navigating other programs on the computer just hang and hang and take a while to open. When I go disconnect the Alltel link it will pop up all the windows and programs it was waiting on. I think there is some type of system resource conflict. Cpu utilization and memory look ok. I did a virus scan and checked numerous times with several spyware programs. I'm pretty sure it's clean. No issues when connecting to our lan or wifi. Would the usb modem be using a bad IRQ value? anyone have had any issues like this? Did try to move it to another usb port. same issues.

Data cards with Windows 7

Hi all,

With Windows 7 coming along, I wonder if my Hauwei EC228 data card provided by Alltel will work? I looked at thier software update and Windows 7 is not listed as of Oct 22. Two calls to Alltel tech support resulted in "not sure" answers. I would appreciate any feedback from those using Windows 7 as i dont want to pluck down $1200 or so for a new computer with Windows 7 unless the data card works. I understand if I get a new data card, I would be forced to get a Verizon contract and lose unlimited data.

exceeding 5 gig cap

got a verizon ad in the mail today and among other things it stated the fee per meg over the 5gig cap was reduced from .25 to .05. I'm curious, have any of you that were with alltel no cap and were taken over by verizon exceeded 5 gigs in a month since the take over? if so were you only billed 59. or did they charge you for the excess? i was over the cap in july but verizon was in charge only part of the month. i was over slightly in aug but havent recd that bill yet.

51. per gig over the cap is pretty expensive surfing, it does beat the 256. per gig over that they were charging. i hope my math is accurate.

.05 x 1024 = 51.20 .25 x 1024 = 256.

[Troubleshooting] Anyone use a teathered phone for "broadband?"

Been on Alltels teathered "broadband" for a couple years-We use a Razr and have a cyfre booster directly connected to the phone and antenna. Signal strength shows 4-5 bars EV
Speed test is usually .24 Mb/s Never very fast for sure, but slightly better than dialup.

The biggest issue, besides slow speeds (compared to what some of you get!) is disconnects.
It will randomly disconnect and show alerts:

The modem has unexpectedly hungup. Please verify your settings and try again."

"The seletcted communication device does not exist. Please verify your settings and try again."

But, the phone is still on, all settings are fine and nothing was changed. Sometimes, overnight, it will stay connected for 14 hrs straight. When in use, it may only stay connected for a few minutes, then maybe 1/2 hr, then? Just random periods of time. I know other Alltel; users around here who have the same disconnect issues. Any ideas?
Thanks
