HTC One

I've been checking out the reviews on this device, and it seems to be getting rave reviews across the board. Unfortunately, I'm on Verizon, and it's not available for my carrier, :( so I have to hope that at some point it will be.

But that also begs the question of which do you like better, between the HTC One, and the Samsung Galaxy S4?

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and fell in love the the pure, stock Vanilla Android. No dealing with overlays, or any of that crap. Never was a fan of HTC's Sense UI, but Sense 5.0 looks pretty slick. Looks like they completely redesigned it and made it very sleek, and elegant looking. Just wanted to get some feedback from you guys, and see what you all think of this device, and what you also think of it comparatively to other flagship devices that are currently out now, or are scheduled for release.

Google Wallet and ISIS

As many people will know 3 carriers are "blocking" (call it what you want) Goggle Wallet and will be (?) rolling out ISIS instead. Many people want to complain and state it's unfair for carries to block Google Wallet. I've given this some thought and would like to put my 2 cents out there...

First let me say I have nothing against Google. I love Android and Google has done good. I also live in Salt Lake City and have been using Isis since 10/12 and it's a great system. I do think they need to get off their butts and put it out to everyone and it's at least 15 months overdue.

What people first see is that on T-mobile, AT&T and Verizon is that they can't download GW (excluding roots and Nexus phones). Upon some checking they see that these carriers are "blocking" the app and that people are holding this against those carriers. I'm not defending this action but I want to mention that Google is to blame as well. Google blocks carrier access to the Secure Element in the phone. So Google is kind of "blocking" the carriers as well.

But here is my 2 cents.... when you buy a phone from xyz manufacture and throught xyz carrier, you are not promised any apps or the Google OS. Both the manufacture and carrier can modify the OS as they see fit. If they want to make it so the phon can't run GW then this should be their right. You and I may not like it, I understand that. But truth is, it's their right to modify the OS and phone as they see fit. When you buy a car the manufacture does not need to make it easy to put xyz's engine in it. They can even make it darn near impossible to do that. So why can't carriers block certain services from Google? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it's the right thing to do and I also understand that it's the customer that is hurt as competition is good for the customer but truth is, nothing was promised to the customer and this is the nature of Android being open. As in most situations there is always some "cons" to go along with the "pros".

With that said, yes... ISIS NEEDS TO BE RELEASED TO EVERYONE... and now!

[Apps] New to Smartphones and Android

Thank you for creating the Android forum.

I recently upgraded to a smartphone, the Samsung II Skyrocket.* Why I did not choose from among the more recent cells which were available at greatly reduced prices, I do not know. But I am learning Android and it has been a fun yet sometimes frustrating process.

I pay $30 extra for a data which does not include tethering (I own a Galaxy Tab 2). I have tried some of the apps but none work. Can you suggest an app I may try as well as others.

I also lost all the default wallpapers and they are not available in the stores. I have looked online but cannot find them. Do you have any suggestions? Also, there are too many unnecessary apps and widgets' icons which I would love to remove but of course since they are not installed it is not easy to do so.

And most important, I know how to sync, save and drop files onto the Skyrocket. However, there are so many folders on the Skyrocket I am not sure which folders to use which would later allow easy access to those files saved (this is not an issue when syncing).

Again any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Cora

*The OS is JB 4.1.2

[Tablet] Hardware ID Missing

Good day,

I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, GT P-5113 which when connected by usb port to my pc, it reads: 'hardware ID missing'. The tablet's driver downloads successfully but the tablet is not visible on my pc.

I have installed Kies and AllShare Play. The tablet appears in Kies, but there is a continuous twirling circle as if it was processing.

The tablet also appears in AllShare and I have successfully synced files from my computer to the tablet. However, there seems to be a problem with this setup also. Registered Devices (on the tablet) shows an icon of the tablet and a greyed out icon of the pc. When this is tapped it reads: 'Unable to connect to device. Check the connection status'.

I must then use 'Nearby Devices' to access my synced files. 'Nearby Devices' sometimes shows 2 icons for my pc. The first is of a square black box with a blue question mark and my pc's name arranged in the following manner: 'my full name-PC-my full name'. Tapping this icon reveals approximately 1/4 the files originally synced to the tab.

The second icon is of a monitor and tower and my pc's name arranged as such: [PC]full name-PC Tapping this icon shows all files synced.

I have no idea what the first icon represents and too often it is the only icon visible which leaves me without access to many files. The above occurs when my pc and tablet are connected by wifi or usb. One or the other does not make a difference.

I also have a Samsung Skyrocket which have similar issues but I think this is enough for today.

I hope someone can be of assistance and I thank you in advance.

[Apps] Google Talk / Hangouts

I regret the move to Hangouts from Google Talk.

Anyone else not liking the new App? I really liked being able to just look and see who is online, busy, etc. Now it's just a list of names, and it always asks if I want to video chat when I am trying to talk with someone.

I feel they took a great, functional app and essentially ruined it.

[Help] Backup help needed.

Hey guys, I have to backup my Galaxy Note phablet, because I had to get a new one under warranty. Sadly the last time I tried this I screwed it all up. This time I want to do it right. So I am looking for a way to back up all but not really the apps because I can just reinstall them later. Plus it gives me a chance to weed out what I no longer use. My thought is to back everything up to either Google Drive, Sky Drive or something of the sort, but I dont really know how to use them all that well. Can anyone slide me some suggestions?

i really would appreciate your help here.

Thanks!

[Tablet] Rooted Nexus 10 for the elderly \ uninitiated

My parents have a rooted Nexus 10 (I wanted to root it for a few things I wanted to have the ability to do) Other then that they have no real need for a rooted device and I do keep it pretty locked down access wise. They know it's rooted but have no clue what it means and they just use it like normal. It is running stock JB.

My question is: Does anyone have any suggestions for apps /tweaks and such that would actually benefit them? Currently all I have is a power off button on the home screen so they don't have to shut down. (They like it)

VZW Gnex owner getting an S4: request for radio comparison

Hi,

I'd like to request someone with a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon do a side by side (well, you'll have to pop the sim card out, but "side-by-side" meaning readings in the same spot) comparison of the radio signal levels with this app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cc.signalinfo&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5jYy5zaWduYWxpbmZvIl0

It's a great way to see the real signal info, including SNR, etc. I'm VERY leery of a Samsung device after the Galaxy Nexus' terrible radio, and I'm hoping the S4 is better. But I'm hoping to see some proof it's better before I consider buying one (especially since I'll be buying full retail to keep unlimited data).

So for you GNex owners out there who are getting an S4 - would you be so kind as to post a screen shot of that app on both phones in the same spots? Preferably in a weaker signal area (but still on 4G or somewhere the GNex flips between 3G and 4G) and a stronger signal area?

Thanks in advance!

So I'm trying to figure out if this will work (NFC)

My son likes to use my Nexus 7. I tried out multi users, but at least in 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 it's unusable.

So the other day I was watching a video where someone did a review of some NFC tags and it gave me an idea.

My idea is to set up a tag to open App Lock (I've been using it for a while to keep my son out of apps that he doesn't need access to) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.domobile.applock&feature and have it toggle the apps that I want to lock/unlock. I could also set up 2 tags, 1 to lock the apps, and 1 to unlock them.

I have yet to find any information that mentions if something like this will work or not.

Successfully booted a custom recovery on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 (thanks to a helpful tester). Look forward to a release soon.
Granted, we still have RIL to deal with, but it looks good for the VZW S4 to get lots of dev love and plenty of ROMs!

So before going to the cost for nothing and offical (likely just CS script) no from ASUS... has anyone had success with 64GB SD on a TF-201?
