[Sci-Fi] Space:1999148; is being upgraded to 147;Space: 2099"

http://www.deadline.com/2012/02/contemporary-reboot-of-1970s-sci-fi-series-space-1999-in-the-works/

ITV Studios America and HDFilms have teamed to develop Space: 2099, a reimagining of the 1970s British sci-fi series Space: 1999 created by Gerry & Sylvia Anderson. HDFilms’ Jace Hall, who recently executive produced ABC’s reboot of another sci-fi franchise, the 1980s mini-series V, is executive producing the new project.

Not bad at all for a low budget film. Although it's starting to look cheesier than the initial hype. Coming in April (somewhere...).

Saw 'The River' last night, and I must say I was surprised. Been a while since a television show scared the stuffing out of me. Not going to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but I will say the last 45 minutes were enough to cause me to sleep with my lights on.

Looking forward to the next episode of this show.

Any other thoughts?

How many philip K dick based movies have you seen?

http://www.philipkdick.com/films_intro.html

Bladerunner: seen it.
Screamers : seen it.
Total Recall: seen it.
Confessions d'un Barjo: Never seen it.
Impostor: Seen it.
Minority Report : Seen it.
Paycheck: Seen it.
A Scanner Darkly: Haven't seen it.
Next: seen it.
The Adjustment Bureau: Seen it.
King of the Elves: Not released yet. 2012 release date.

Most of the above have been ok to pretty good movies. Most of that depends on the screen writer/directors interpretation of the original work.
I really need to start reading his written work.

[Sci-Fi] Lost Girl

Saw a few commercials on Syfy for this show Lost Girl that was premiering this week on Monday that just passed, yet when I go on torrent sites I'm seeing 2 seasons of this show already. Wth?! What's going on here? :o

Syfy is heavily promoting this as the "Premier", and when I check their website it doesn't show prior seasons or other episodes on the "Episodes" section, so I'm a bit confused here.

I'm thinking that it could be one of these scenarios:

1. The show has indeed been out for a while now, and the "Premier" that Syfy is referring to is the season premier (which doesn't make sense because they didn't specify "Season Premier" like they do with all their other shows, and I would've noticed this show on their lineup before).

2. This is something along the lines of what's going on with Being Human and there is a UK version of the show that has been out for a few years now which is different from the U.S. version, and this is just a U.S. version that is being made that I'm seeing commercials for, so the torrents I'm seeing online are for a different show altogether but with the same name.

3. This is something along the lines of what's going on with Merlin where the UK version was shown before the show was ever picked up here in the U.S., and it is in fact the same show, but the torrents are just the seasons that have already aired elsewhere.

Please  help clarify.

[Sci-Fi] Alcatraz

So the premiere's tonight, 2 hours special from 8-10PM. They're putting J.J. Abram's name over it all, but he's only the executive producer. He neither wrote or directed any episode.

It's mostly the same crew that was behind Lost. That's why I'm not going to watch it for now.

Who wants another six seasons of constant intrigues and ZERO F***ING RESOLUTION? I'm still wondering what those frickin' glyphs in the hatch were, why someone would ever paint a map revealed by blue lights, and whatever the hell was up with that statue.

Sarah Jones is pretty hot, but Jorge Garcia? Maybe if he lost 250lbs he'd be more likable, he's an average actor already, I don't see what the producers see in him.

In spite of it all, the concept has me intrigued. I'm hoping it's good. :D

[Anime] Anime removed from Cartoon Network?

For a long time Cartoon Network showed [anime] shows on Saturday night such as the critically acclaimed Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, and more.

This was a way that a lot of people got introduced to [anime].

Last night (Saturday) this was all gone---vanished---with no explanation, replaced by shows like Robot Chicken (ugh) and Clone Wars (a good show, but which they already show during the day).

Cartoon Network used to show LOTS of [anime] but in the last few years they only showed it on Saturday nights. Fair enough.

But now they have taken even THAT away!

Yes, we can watch [anime] online. But it is an important genre that deserves a place on Cartoon Network.

Further, being on CN makes many young people aware of the existence of [anime] to begin with.

---------------------------

Did anyone else notice this last night?

Comments? :)

[Anime] sorta SPOILERS Gundam Age

Haven't made the "currently watching" seasonal topic yet, because I'm lazy, but this one in particular bears mentioning on its own, as I'd been waiting for a new Gundam series.......

Anyone seen this yet?

Simply put, I hate it. Only thing worse than angst-ridden teenagers piloting Gundams, is KIDS piloting Gundams! Yeah, the main character is SUPPOSED to be 14 I think, but he looks/sounds 10. He's annoying as hell, and the characters thus far are stale and boring.

Kid helps build the Gundam after his mother is killed in an UE (Unknown Enemy) attack! Sure, we're not expected to think a 7 year old would be quite scarred from watching his mother burn to death, but hey, he gets his little AGE device, that he amazingly uses to build the Gundam. Why HE, between the ages of 7-14 could do what previous generations of the family COULDN'T, is conveniently ignored.

Now, the 14 that looks like 10 year old Flit - Heero, Setsuna, Shinn, Kira, Amuro..... cool names, but FLIT???? Ah screw it, his name sucks as much as the premise of this show does...... anyway, the now 14 year old is running around claiming the aliens are gonna attack again, and OF COURSE no one believes him. Seems he can be a genius in designing mobile suits, but stupid about plot devices...... Images of Gaiking ran through my head, as I recalled that Daiya ran around his village claiming the aliens were coming and no one believed him..... wait, that show was GOOD.... erm. Anyway, lo and behold, THE ALIENS ATTACK!!!! Naturally, the aliens that look like gargoyles make short work of the defense forces, and basically just blowing everything up, including the new Genoace mobile suits. Ah gotta love the fodder. Hell, the "ACE" pilot can't even make it out of the hangar, pussy. Well, you know the drill. Kid "HAS TO DO SOMETHING!" and decides he can pilot the Gundam, that just so happens to be ready, but not tested..... So off our hero goes, and beats one of the aliens. (how about that?) The remaining aliens, after blowing up the defeated unit, begin attacking the outside of the colony.... oh noes!

The end. Well, of episode 1 anyway.

I REALLY wanted to like this, I really did, but this is so bad, I don't even know if I can give it another shot. I know I will, because I'm curious how the Gundam "Evolves" but seriously, it annoys on so many levels......

There you go, quick rundown on one big disappointment. YMMV of course, but don't say I didn't warn ya.

[Anime] Winter 2011/2012 Preview guide up

Points of interest for me thus far....

HD SEED - duh.

Kyousogiga looks promising, as does High School DxD. Black Rock Shooter should be good as well, I liked the OAV.

Amagami SS+ will hopefully be better than the majority of the first season. Mouretsu Pitates looks good too.

A couple of interesting bits, Toradora! gets a new episode in the BD release - looking forward to seeing it get subbed by someone here. Also Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko will have an episode 13 on it's vol 7 release. I liked that series, so seeing a bonus episode would be nice. Here's hoping!

[Sci-Fi] Primeval: New World

Regarding the ITV series: "Haines and Hodges don't think they're getting a Series 6"

and thanks to an accidental find on a web search, I've discovered some more (great!) info about Primeval, New World!

First off, the production is scheduled for Feb. 29-July 9. And--the big news--there are two cool names involved with it: Producer/writer Gillian Horvath and director Martin Wood.

Most recently, those two have been a huge part of Sanctuary (which is an awesome show in itself) and they've also been variously involved with some other great genre shows, such as Stargate, Andromeda, Highlander, Painkiller Jane, Forever Knight and Jeremiah. The best part is that Gillian is also a huge fan of the original Primeval, which tells me that our show is going to be in very good hands. Wahoo!

FYI - Todays the day - Free Star Trek Online Multiplayer

Dunno if any of you are interested but the online multiplayer Star Trek game that came out a while back just released their "Free" online version TODAY.

Still gotta pay up if you want certain kinds of upgrades and whatnot but you can download the base game and play for free now...Similarly to the Battlestar Galactica online game which is free to play.

Setting up your account is kinda difficult because they have two sources - and its almost like you have to create accounts at both then link them together.

I just started watching this show, and I must say I really like it. I was doing a bit of research, and I found out it's basically 100% Canadian content. (Season 1 & 2 basically were using Canadian cities and money..) They are also funded by Canadian backing.

I noticed that SciFi got their hands on it... So does that mean it could randomly get cancelled just like all other highly popular SciFi shows that got the axe for financial reasons?
