Turntable question.

Hello,
A while ago, someone gave me a Technics SL-D30 turntable with an Ortofon TM14 cartridge. The table plays pretty well to my ears, but inner tracks can get nasty. Another problem it has is approx 1 revolution before the track starts, I can hear the intro of the song. I don't know much about this sort of thing, but I am led to believe it is either a problem with the anti-skate stuff or I need a new cart/stylus (I hear an Audio Technica 3482 is a good match for this table). Any suggestions? Thanks!
P. S. Anti-skate and counterweight are both set at 1.25g.

Extracting audio data from EPROM/identifying codec

I have a couple EPROM data files from an old Pachislo machine that I am trying to extract the audio data from. So far, I have had really little luck in identifying the codec used in these. I tried Amadeus and VLC on my OS X system, and I tried GoldWave on the PC.

I was able to get a sound (with quite a bit of static) when I used variants of ADPCM in Goldwave (with a 32,000hz sampling rate). However, I just can't seem to nail the codec that this thing is using.

Apologizes if I shouldn't be linking the file - I can upload it to another site if this breaks rules attaching it here.

If I could ever figure out what codec this uses, there is a good possibility that I might be able to change the data (and thus the sounds) in the game.

Thanks :)

Best format to rip DVDs to?

Forum, what format do you rip your DVDs to?

I'm asking this because, for years now, I've been ripping the files directly from DVDs, to .vob (actually multiple .vob and .bup files), thinking that this would be the most universal. Which is not proving to be the case.

I've been playing around with an iPhone app called Air Video http://www.inmethod.com/air-video/index.html to stream videos to my iPod Touch, but it won't stream DVDs or DVD files (.vob).

So first, what format do you think would be better?

And second, is there any way to convert what I've already ripped into a single file per movie?

I did try using DVDFab to convert the files to mp4, I tried the generic and ipod mp4 profiles, and get 1 mp4 file per VOB. I checked all the settings to see if there was a way to make it join the files but haven't found anything yet.

Edit: Something that I was not aware of but did just discover is DVDFab can convert my DVD folders to ISO.

[XPPro] Burning a DVD from various file formats

I am using OJOsoft to create any of the following video files:

MP4
AVI
MPEG
MOV
VOB

etc.....

Once I have the actual file created, do I need DVD burning software to create an actual DVD? I was under the impression that a VOB file can be read by any DVD player, therefore, I just copied my VOB file to a DVD (just in windows explorer) but no luck playing this on my DVD player.

Live Camcorder Feed

Okay - so I'm wanting to buy the equipment to hook a camcorder to my computer so I can stream video live on sites such as ustream.

Now... I've heard that I can do it three ways.

1) Firewire
2) HDMI to USB
3) Component Cables to USB

So- what would you recommend for a live stream.

I'm planning on getting a new camera and laptop - so I need to see what my options are as for live, somewhat high quality streaming.. and I've noticed most laptops except high-end ones have Firewire... so I was hoping there would be a HDMI to USB converter, although I'm sure it would make the video choppy...

Anyway, I hope to see some inputs!
Thanks,
Austin

Netflix newb question

I just signed up for Netflix, it's the first time I've tried it. I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to pick out movies to watch. Is there a way to format the list so you don't have to page through a zillion screens to find something? I didn't see a 'new release' section, is there one? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
