Honeywell Defense

Swung into my local Fleet Farm to grab filters and oil for our vehicles. I like Purolator and they are a dealer. But I found the new Honeywell Defense oil filters where the Purolators used to be. Luckily they just moved the later, and have not discontinued selling them. Knowing Honeywell makes Fram, and that these Defense filters were half the price of the Frams next to them, I knew to stay clear. Everything I have seen on the internet says the Defense are just Frams with new paint. Anyone know if that is true? Anyone have experience with them yet?

Baby Garbage Truck

This is what they look like before they grow up. Saw this in Green Bay today. Back seat was right to the roof line, you couldn't see through the back window at all. Passenger seat was full to the dash, and dash had 6" of crap on it. Rear suspension was tapping the bump stops over every bump or dip in the road. My initial thought was he was living in the car. But there were no clothing articles or anything like that. Just garbage, coffee cups, papers, old mail, fast food bags......

I sold my baby....

My '89 Civic hatchback - I just sold it for $300. Hated seeing it sitting in the driveway not being driven at all. I had soooooo much fun in the car it is not funny. 6 BMW performance drivers schools - a total blast and a remarkably fun car for it with no performance mods.

I am going to miss it - hopefully in the next 2 years I can save enough up (school loan almost paid off) and I can get a 325i or 328i to replace it and do the schools again.

I had the car since '95, it was hit 2 times - only once badly but you would never know it was hit), and the car had 46,000 miles. It now has 214K with many original parts and surprisingly little rust for being in Ohio.

I will have to get a picture tomorrow and post it...

:( :( :( :(

Well Done, Ford!!

"Consumer Reports, in their annual initial reliability survey results released this afternoon, provides good news for Ford, which is perceived as offering quality and reliability on par with Asian automakers. Chrysler, on the other hand, dropped to near-Daewoo levels."

Looks like even the anti-domestic sources are finally admitting what's been obvious for years - Ford makes some great, reliable cars. I think they have a bright future.

Chrysler, though, seems like a lost cause.

GPS with video input

Not the best place for this? Please, freely move...
I need a new GPS. Mine's lame and no more map updates.
While at it, I'd also like a backup camera for my van.
But I don't want two LCD units on the dash.
So what's a good, not insanely priced, device that can do this? Doesn't *have* to be a 'GPS' but some device that's about the standard size that can do GPS and take an aux video input...
This is cool:
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-5000-5-2-Inch-Portable-Navigator/dp/B0011UIXLG

But $250+....gets to my level of 'insane' price, whether it's worth it or not...
Thanks,
KM

Offer to sell my truck...out of country?

My truck is up there in miles and years (202K and 1995). But it's a Toyota, well maintained and still going. However its costing me in insurance, registration and gas as an additional vehicle, plus expected maintenance (timing belt, pump, gaskets, annual inspection)

Anyway, I planned on listing it (passed inspection, great shape, 4x4) when I was getting some gas.

The attendant was complimenting me on it, and checking it out and asked if I ever wanted to sell it. I replied, make an offer. (book value is $3K I wanted $4k, as i have upgrades, lift, TJM winch bumper, sprayed bed liner, Factory manuals, original parts prior to lift,...).
He states he leaves in 3 weeks to "go back to his country" and this would work well on his farm. (Can't tell if Dominican or South American)

I might take $3400 (won't give him TracRac...) and cash only, but how do you do this sale? I'm used to going with buyer to Tag/DOT place and signing title over with motor vehicle rep as witness. If this is going out of the country, what steps should I take? Or should I just call DMV ? Anyone familiar?
I'd like to sell it but having some doubt (3 week time line...with Thanksgiving coming up, I am not in a rush...especially with a 4WD...)

Yee-ha, part 2

Um, oops!

Video of the car being pulled out of the lake:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcom8_ArYA8

Story:
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/12/video-low-flying-pelican-ends-up-creating-bugatti-veyron-hydro/

quote:This is one of the saddest, yet most amusing sights we've ever seen. A $1.6 million Bugatti Veyron sitting in a salt water lagoon, door open, in two feet of nasty, corrosion-inducing muddy water. While the sight is sad, how the event allegedly transpired is downright hilarious. The unnamed owner of the vehicle, traveling through Galveston, Texas to look at some high-end property, was reportedly talking on his cell phone when a low-flying pelican distracted him. The driver swerved to avoid the big bird, dropped his cell phone, and in the process the front passenger tire hit a mud patch.

The ultra rare Veyron (reportedly one of 15 copies here in the States) was still running after it rested nearly belt-line high in the salt water, as local news affiliate KHOU reported the 1,000+ hp engine "gurgled like an outboard motor for about 15 minutes before it died." It probably would have been a great idea to kill power to the engine (and even shut the door) once the Veyron hit the muck, but hey, what do we know?
